This one is literally worthy of being aired on prime time cable tv. Hey, if the Kardashians can make it on air every week, I know this vid has a long shelf life.

Ordered one in red. As soon as I install it, I will post a review on line. BTW, this video is a great thing you guys do. Going to make my install very easy-no guessing. Thanks for that.

Great video. Cassette toilets indeed are gross. I had no idea how lucky I was for having a composting toilet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but regardless of the hinge type, the van can be broken into by simply removing the four exposed bolts holding the door. Is this a security issue?
@owlvansengineering3 күн бұрын
The top bolt is too large to pass through the hinge therefore it cannot be removed without the door open

I refuse to use mine or dump my wife’s boom boom. Everyone handles their own. I carry the 5 gallon bucket camp toilet and we buy waste bags for boom boom and toss when done. It’s multi purpose then my wife can use the bucket to shave her legs. For number 1 I keep the empty DEF jugs and use a funnel. It’s like having a portable urinal with the hose lol I just dump crystals in the DEF jug and no smell.

I always get a kick out of the "vanlifers" who are giving their tour and say they've been living in their van for one or two years and "This is our toilet but we've never gone number two in it. We just don't do that" WHY?? Often times it's the metrosexual Gen Z male with the "man bun" LOL We had a cassette at our off grid cabin in the early years and was no big deal. Getting ready to do a van build and have decided on the Trellino separator style. You can put their bag in the rear/#2 compartment, do your business, twist tie it and drop it right in the roadside or Walmart/McDonalds garbage can. BOOM! And before anyone starts freaking out...who cares. Millions of people have been doing it for over fifty years with disposable diapers in restaurant and gas station bathrooms, etc

We added one of those SOG fans for Thetford cassette toilets. That has been the best thing for controlling order by eliminating it all together. Best mod and was easy to install.

AFAIK, bleach in the cassette kills the microorganisms, so would need to be very careful if used.

I recommend emptying your cassette toilet into your sewer line clean out valve outside the house so you can avoid bringing in the nasty cassette into the house altogether! It has been an amazing alternative.

I use the Happy Camper powder and I mix it in a 20oz. bottle first, and then put in my toy-toy. It works amazing!! No smells ever! I like to use my toilet at home for emptying. This way I can wash out the cassette and keep it clean. I am coming to see you in Mesa John!! Gotta get my boingers upgraded!

I wouldn’t use a chemical toilet.prefer to use a composting toilet.

Struts so stiff I couldn't close the door from inside. Suggest adjustable struts mounted up high. Hopefully additional weight on the door will remedy. If not I can always mount a pull strap or handle on the door.

Question: If I attach the rails with rivet nuts, can I then install a roof rack using the rails?. By the way Great video!
@owlvansengineering8 күн бұрын
I would not want to attach a whole roof rack this way. This is only to support the ladder

Did the video of using 3M adhesive ever get completed/posted? Have the door problem on my van and have all the supplies. Would like to watch an expert from Owl vs guessing. Most of my internal supports from factory are completely loose.
@owlvansengineering8 күн бұрын
We didn't make the video, unfortunately, but it is super simple. You can use this product and you will need an applicator gun. Just be liberal with the amount of adhesive. It dries fairly quickly. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PEW4MI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I have a 144 4x4, when spending time inside I wish it was a 170 but I bought it to spend more time outside not inside. When driving it around San Francisco or really any city I really appreciate the ease of parking and the turning radius. It turns around way sharper than my F-150. 😅

I love the height on the sprinter compared to the Transit BUT! I don't trust the reliability of the Sprinter. 3 local Mercedes dealers have more than 20+ sprinters waiting for service. Ford's have parts in hand if need a repair.

@owlvansengineering13 күн бұрын
Two reasons for the higher cost. Vastly smaller market and these parts are made in the USA. Jeep parts are mostly from China and have a market of millions, not hundreds. If there was an opportunity to undercut the van market prices it would have happened already. Only thing that will bring prices down is growth of the industry.

John, great tip on the glass and repair kit. However: RATS AND RODENTS... The Amazon device you endorsed (and every other one like it sold online), are not effective in deterring rodents. There is NO research at all that backs up the effectiveness of these specific devices. Available research actually suggests these devices may serve to attract rodents. In controlled lab testing, ultrasonic lows and high frequencies do show effect on rodents. However, the "over the counter" devices out there do not mimmic these same ultra high frequencies closely, and, they are in environments with dozens of other factors (windy outdoor carports, garages with heat or cooling, other ambient noises, smells, etc). In your tips, I suggest sticking with things that are tried and tested (as in the other four tips in the video). As far as rodents are concerned, there is some evidence that light and certain smells and sprays have some limited effects in determent. The new electric perimeter "fencing" has shown great promise too - expensive, but so are these vans. And if you have a real problem where you live, the investment might be worth it for something proven so far to work.
