Is the Palazzo Ventimiglia Suites in Palermo in a good area? Should I have any concern? A few I know rare about that place that it is really nice. I wanted your opinion. Thank you. Love your videos!

Palazzo Ventimiglia Suites is on Via Vittorio Emanuele, one of Palermo's main streets. It’s a great spot to stay - a beautiful pedestrian street that’s lively day and night, with people walking around constantly. It’s safe, no worries there. As for the place itself, I’ve never stayed there, but I’ve visited it. A lot of people from the WeArePalermo community have stayed and told me they had a great time. The only thing I’ve heard is that the Wi-Fi isn’t the best - but honestly, that’s pretty common in hotels here in Italy. Hope this helps, and thanks for the love on the videos!

I saw holiday appartments. But what about long term letting? Looking for somewhere safe but reasonably price.Tried idealista etc and nobody responding as a single lady want to feel safe any ideas please?
@WeArePalermo
@WeArePalermo 9 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, most apartments in Palermo are managed by real estate agencies, and the only way to find long-term rentals is through sites like Idealista or Subito.com. The problem is, not all agents speak English, so when they see a message in English, they often just don’t reply. I totally get how frustrating this is - I’m on your side, and yeah, it sucks, but that's just how it is here. What I’d recommend is calling them directly. Sometimes, they’ll put someone on the phone who speaks English, or you can at least set up an appointment to view the apartment. Locals here usually call, check out the apartment, and if they're interested, go to the agency to make an offer. It’s a hassle, I know, but calling might be your best shot. Good luck!

Ciao! Ostello Bello Palermo is definitely in a safe area. If you don’t mind walking, you can easily reach the major attractions on foot. The epicenter of the historic center is Quattro Canti (The Four Corners), and Ostello Bello is just a 15-minute walk from there

Ciao! Balestrate is a really small seaside town. In the summer, it’s pretty lively with a nice beach vibe, but in the winter, there’s honestly not much going on. There’s not a ton to do, especially during the off-season, so it really depends on the kind of lifestyle you want. It’s also about an hour’s drive from Palermo, and public transportation isn’t super frequent, especially in the winter. It’s a cute place, but maybe a little too quiet for some people!

Is it still warm enough for a linen jacket/suit in Palermo area in November?
@WeArePalermo
@WeArePalermo 2 ай бұрын
Ciao! November temperatures around Palermo can vary, typically from about 15°C (59°F) in the evening to around 22°C (72°F) during the day, but it can be a bit unpredictable this time of year. Linen could work just fine for daytime, especially if you’re coming from somewhere cooler-it’ll give you that light, breathable feel while it's still warm. In the evening, though, it might feel a little chilly for linen. Just so you know, linen is usually seen as more of a spring-summer fabric in Italy, so locals don’t often wear it in autumn. But honestly, it’s all about what feels comfortable for you

Thanks for the clarification Nico. So tell me, what do Sicilians eat for breakfast?
@WeArePalermo
@WeArePalermo 2 ай бұрын
Ciao Sam! Sure! A typical Sicilian breakfast, especially in Palermo, usually means grabbing a cornetto with a cappuccino or coffee. Cornetti are like croissants but softer and fresher, often filled with different options like custard, honey, jam, pistachio cream, or chocolate. You’ll also find variations like whole-wheat versions, pan brioche filled with ricotta or cream, and puff pastries. For those who prefer savory, there are pieces of Palermitan rosticceria-basically savory pastries filled with ingredients like cheese or ham. These are great if you’re in the mood for something more substantial but still local. At home, a Sicilian breakfast tends to be lighter: milk, yogurt, cereal, or cookies. And unlike in the U.S., where breakfast is seen as a big meal, here it’s usually a quick, light start to the day. If you’re looking for eggs and bacon, that’s rare in traditional Sicilian spots, although trends are slowly changing. And just a heads-up about gelato: the best gelaterias in Palermo usually open later, closer to lunchtime, because locals don’t typically have gelato in the morning. In some tourist areas, you’ll see it offered early, but it’s more for visitors. So if you’re exploring Palermo in the morning, stick to the cornetti or rosticceria for a real taste of what locals enjoy

Where are staying near the esplanade. Why do the local set of explosive large fireworks along the esplanade at 4:30 am in the morning? And midnight? Should we wear earplugs to bed and close all the windows?
@WeArePalermo
@WeArePalermo 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately, the whole random fireworks thing is a phenomenon that affects much of Italy from Rome down. There have been numerous police investigations trying to figure out why it happens, and the truth is, not much is clear. Some say it’s a form of communication between criminals, other times it’s for prisoners’ birthdays, or even just for neighborhood parties. The frustrating part is that not much is being done to stop this annoying practice, which causes a lot of stress for locals, especially elderly people and pets. There have been calls to the government to toughen the penalties for those setting off these fireworks and for those illegally selling them, but of course, nothing has really changed. So even if they catch people shooting them off or selling them in shady ways, the law doesn’t allow for harsh punishment. Italy’s an amazing country with a lot of incredible things, but like every place, it has its flaws and some inexplicable stuff that drives you nuts-this is one of those things. It’s been a problem for decades, and like many other issues, it seems like nobody really wants to solve it. Unfortunately, we locals have just learned to live with it. I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. The best solution is usually earplugs and keeping the windows shut. Most locals install double-pane windows to reduce outside noise, but I’m not sure if the place you’re staying in has enough soundproofing to prevent those middle-of-the-night wake-ups

If you are idiot, anywhere you go problem finds you, but if you are cool and you know things, no problems. People often forget that they're tourists anywhere they go except home. If you go to Palermo and you act like a idiot or you dont respect culture and land, well... Even home you gona get f if you are like that. Sicilia, Campagna and Calabria are something else. I lived in Palermo 2.5 years. Was visiting also Naples in Campagna, Crotone and Reggio di Calabria in Calabria provence. I love Italia. Best people and best land in world for me. Soon im gona return. If you respect em, nobody and never gona give you hard time. Even more, they gona protect you like their own.

I'm totally with you on this one-couldn't have said it better myself. I've traveled a lot for work and spent tons of time in places that are technically considered dangerous, like Lebanon, Brazil, Mexico, and so many others, and honestly, I've had some of the happiest days of my life there. Like you said, it’s all about respecting the place and the people, not acting like an idiot. Sometimes we think that just because we can get away with acting a certain way at home, we can do the same everywhere we go, but that’s not how it works. Every place is different, and it's on us to adapt, show some respect, and just be aware of the culture we're in. It’s not the place that has to adjust to us. Keep your head straight, and you'll be fine anywhere

No matter where you go on this planet, there is the positive and the negative you must live with. This became vividly clear to me after I moved to the Philippines in 2018. It’s what they warn you about if you plan to divorce and marry someone new. You’ll be marrying someone with a whole different set of positives and negatives. What is great about human intellect though is that we are able to adapt, to grow, and actually choose what to focus on in our environment and relationships and what to ignore. Essentially it is up to us to do that, and if we don’t, we don’t usually find the most contentment possible in our relationships and environments. Unconditional love is a great thing to possess, but not something everyone possesses. I love the Philippines and Palermo unconditionally. I know how to focus on all of the good people and things while ignoring the rest. ❤
@WeArePalermo
@WeArePalermo 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and I totally agree with you. Wherever we go, there will always be positives and negatives-it's all about what we choose to focus on. I'm glad you've found a way to embrace the beauty of the Philippines and Palermo, focusing on the good rather than getting bogged down by the negatives. It’s exactly what I try to encourage in my videos: enjoy the incredible things that a place has to offer. Sure, no place is perfect, and I make it a point to be upfront about that, but the beauty often outweighs the imperfections. Thanks for tuning in and sharing your perspective!

How much is a taxi from the airport …..we just got charged 85 euro and then he complained about dog hair
@WeArePalermo
@WeArePalermo 3 ай бұрын
Ciao! I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. Just so you know, taxi fares from the airport to different areas in Palermo are actually fixed. Here’s a breakdown of the official rates: - Viale Michelangelo/Viale Lazio: 39 euros - Corso Calatafimi/Corso Vittorio Emanuele: 44 euros - Central Station/Brancaccio: 50 euros You can double-check these prices and the corresponding zones on the official websites: - Palermo Airport: www.aeroportodipalermo.it/en/at-the-airport/reach-the-airport/taxi/ - Taxi Company 6878: www.6878.it/tariffe/?lang=ENGLISH If the driver agreed to take your dog, they really shouldn’t have complained about the hair. And if you were dropped off in Palermo (not outside the city), 85 euros is way too high. I hope you managed to get a receipt because that could help if you decide to report the issue to the taxi company. Unfortunately, if they didn’t give you a receipt or use the meter, it might have been a scam. I wish I could say otherwise, but without proof, it can be tough to resolve it, even if you go to the police or contact the company. I really hope things work out for you!

We are going first two weeks in October to Sicily for 2 weeks. All the stays are arranged - flying into Palermo and renting a car. 3 nights Scopello, 2 nights Cefalu, 4 nights Lipari, 2 nights Taormina, 3 nights Ortigia. Flying out of Catania. We plan to rent a car for the first few days because we will take a day trip to Villafrati where my grandparents were from - so we will need the car to get there. They immigrated to the US in the early 1900’s. I want to see the town. What are your suggestions for where to turn the car in? We are thinking of Cefalu or Milazzo. We won’t need a car while in Cefalu, but have to get to the ferry in Milazzo. Would it be better to take a car service/taxi and not hassle with the driving? And when we go from Milazzo to Taormina, and Taormina to Ortigia? We plan to take private car service for Ortigia to CAT. Any advice on a reputable car rental? Many thanks!
