How deep was it and how long was it underwater before it was recovered
@HistoryRats14 күн бұрын
@@grec9177 We are under the assumption that she went under at some point because of the way that she looked & smelled, and I would say she was probably under for a good hot minute. However, I could be wrong. I mean, I'm not wrong very often, but it is always a possibility. 🤷♀️ As far as how deep, I don't actually know that either, but from what I remember she has a considerably deep draft (6 or 7 foot) so that would really depend on where she was when she sank.

@@HistoryRats I meant being baited with the boat being free. There is no such thing as a free boat. My boat is docked on the pier across from the haul out in the marina next door. I woke up one morning to see her there, getting the new engine dropped in. It was sooo tempting to go over and ask them, "This here the Harvey boat?" LOL

What am I missing here???? Raise the sails, head to the nearest land and dingy to shore with a gas can, get gas go back to the boat and sail to a marina or somewhere close enough to go get more gas... of course on a sailboat, you are never out of fuel.. I have done the walk to a gas station many times. Once in Hampton VA, and even stopped for lunch at a sub shop and met with a dock owner who cut me a heck of a break for 2 weeks because I had engine trouble.
@HistoryRats9 ай бұрын
I don't know that you're missing anything, other than we were towing another boat. Besides, it's a good title for a video where we did, in fact, run out of diesel in our sailboat...I mean, you obviously watched the video, so it worked.
@hearsejr9 ай бұрын
@HistoryRats I was like expecting more danger or a bad storm or rough currents pushing yall towards rock or something .... lol. Wby didn't yell just sail the the towed boat and buddy boat the trip? It looks pretty decent condition and fairly good shape. I have seen some horror stories dealing with boats getting towed. One guy named Drake out of oriental nc, just had a brand new bow sprit and was towing another guy's boat when some how the the boat getting towed passed Drake and turned right into the brand new bow sprit taking it out. I gave out of gas several times in the past. Almost every time was from contaminated fuel, or from damaged during a storm, or because it was stolen while I was away. Once the fuel line ruptured at the fitting to the tank and i lost 5 gallons before I could stop it. Man that was scary smelling fumes in the boat while scooping water and fuel from the bilge with a cup into a 5 gallon bucket. I never really towed another sailboat with a standing mast. I did tow one with a master snapped off at the spreaders once but the guy sailed it 135 miles with a jury rig, till I found him and he was willing to sail right in to the Chesapeake bay but I tossed him a line and we did about 4 hours under my Atomic 4 power. That went through fuel like crazy towing. I'm pretty sure that's what happen to yall. The extra load took a little extra fuel. Glad yall made it and it was just a simple running out of fuel. I'm wanting to get another mid 20'er.. maybe a Coronado 27 shoal draft or something. Lol
@HistoryRats9 ай бұрын
So, when we were towing the little boat back in October, we didn't really know a lot about it. There were a lot of unknown factors that made us unsure of what the little HR was capable of. I don't know if you can tell in the video, but she was seriously overweight. There was something like 35 gallons of fresh water on board (not our doing), bottles & jugs everywhere you looked. I don't know that she would have done very well sailing like that. Since that time, we have become rather familiar with her. She's a fun little sailor, although I'll admit that I'm still learning the art of the tiller 😆 As to the danger, that didn't come in until the next morning. I don't think I will be releasing that footage.
@hearsejr9 ай бұрын
@HistoryRats lol go ahead release that footage.. lol. I am 100% sure you're first day was much better at sailing then my first year of trying.. lol. I think I would have emptied a few bottles of water, but then it might have been a good thing as it made the towed boat a tad heavier and slowed it down so as not to ram you. My dingy did that once. I had the painter too short and a wave came up the stern and slammed my dingy right into the name plate. I put a bucket out the back back once to see if it really would slow the boat down.. I ended up having to stop the boat to recover that dern bucket. Lol. I used a canoe for a dingy most of the time and swamped it more then once because I was towing it instead of strapping it to the stanchions. I'm glade that you atheist enjoying the little boat and not on the hard rotting away.
@HistoryRats9 ай бұрын
I appreciate you saying that, but I don't think releasing the footage is such a good idea. The day after this video was shot, we ended up stranded on a deserted island for three days after both boats got beached. We survived, obviously 😆, but the footage is pretty intense. After the nasty comments that I've had to remove from this video, I can only imagine the negativity that would cause. I just can't deal with that right now.
