Not useful for a beginner choosing a board to begin with.. Content concentrates on touring boards, which is probably not applicable to most people. So, in essence, the content did not at all deliver on the title.

I say get what you can afford initially. Get comfortable and familiar with the sport, then upgrade once you’ve had time to do your research and determine what you like. I chose an inflatable paddleboard simply due to cost and storage constraints. I know there are much better options out there, but it works for me right now.

And bending over at each stroke is the most efficient and effective way of paddling?

Well, you can do whatever you like, but engaging your bigger abdominal muscles with core crunch and legs helps you generate more power. As opposed to just standing up and using your arms. All the women featured in the video are strong paddlers and race for fun and fitness. Learning good forward stroke technique is like developing a good golf swing. It’s a life long endeavor. But if you like to just float around and relax that’s ok too.

God forbid you just want to chill near the shore. I'm glad I bought a long and narrow board with one fin, but I could envision novices being frustrated with them. Kids use them as floating docks or kayaks and the cheapest one easily available should probably be fine.

I got a 10.6 ft touring board from amazon less than 2 weeks ago it cost £127.00 and I got 3 years accidental damage cover through amazon for £12.70 it says u can claim 3 times in 12 months , I've taken it out every day bar 2 cold ones and it's great I love it much better than the all round 9ft one it's faster and more stable and didn't break the bank either just get a cheapo with cover and they have to keep sending new ones I've crashed into the river bank every day aswell and still holding up 😅

This video is an advertisement for touring boards that cost $1000-$1700. No thank you, definitely nothing of value for newbies which need good stable all around board for couple hundred $

Glad you are having fun on the water. That’s important. If you haven’t tried a touring board it’s hard to understand what you’re missing. Better tracking, better glide, better stability. The number of “kneel down” paddle boarders I see on the water these days has increased dramatically with number of cheap “air mattress” type paddle boards that offer poor stability. A women recently attended a Coast Outdoors demo, after paddling a quality touring board she was shocked at how much better it was than her $400 Amazon board. “I just thought that was what paddle boarding was like”

@@lukeyb195 I was looking at this FB sport one, I noticed one color is way less expensive I'm wondering if it's the same as the 199 dollar ones construction wise same brand just different paint because it's only 129, I should probably just buy it it's 11 feet it's kind of flat on the back my friend was telling me to get round in the back but I think the flat would track better and it's a little longer, seems like a great deal. He got Roc brand ones for 200 each but I'm wondering if the 129 dollar one be as Good

this vid is nothing more than a commercial for Starboard. Newb's and most any paddler have no need with spending big money for a Starboard. The number 1 selling board is Body Glove Performer 11 at Costco and it's a solid mid level board with a rock solid reputation since introduced 8 years ago. It's 1/3 the price of a Starboard too and backed by Costco's outstanding warranty/return policy. New paddlers should start with a 11' (10.6 is fine, but the extra length is great for taking along a kid or dog) with spending under $300. You are preaching to the wrong audience.

meeeeh a larger board just means much more stability, be it in waves or in fact for newbie its much better, sure going fast and all is cool but you just cant beat the stability and the room it gives you for accessories, its bigger

This is all understandable, but of you also want to learn to catch some small waves at the beach and things like that and you don’t want to buy several different boards, a allround board is the better choice.

"You get what you pay for" doesn't mean that spending more money means that you will get better quality. It simply means that you get to bring home the item that you paid for. Sometimes spending more money means better quality. But if you want to communicate that, then you should say that's spending more money often means you will get better quality. But of course, sometimes you get better quality when spending less money. Because some products are a better value than others. Sometimes the better product costs less money.

When we talk about 'You get what you pay for,' it's often true with our higher priced boards at Coast Outdoors. As experts who see products in and out, including through our repair shop, we know the difference between good and bad quality. Our higher priced boards may seem more expensive initially, but they offer better value over time due to their superior craftsmanship and durability.
@adamr8628
@adamr8628 6 ай бұрын
@DeepCoveKayakCentre Yes, I agree that sometimes higher priced means better quality. There is also a limit to that, with the "law of diminishing returns". I prefer to buy when the quality levels off at the lowest price. Not talking about your products, just speaking in general. For example, a bicycle for $10,000 isn't 10 times better than a bike for $1000. The best bike for the money is probably around $2000. That's all I was getting at. Using that example because I understand bikes better than SUPs.

Be sure to check the price of a SUP at Canadian Tire before you see what a Starboard board costs. #firstcarporche You don't say much about what criteria to use in selection. Those of us who have made mistakes know this video doesn't prevent someone from making the same with the boards suggested.

@@OscarHanzelynot true! There is a growing number of “kneel down” paddle boarders most who use cheap Costco/Amazon paddle boards. These boards because of their poor internal structure are very unstable. Touring boards come in different shapes and sizes some are very stable. You can choose to ignore information from a company that has been dealing with paddle boards, and delivering instruction, since the beginning, or you can choose your own confirmation bias.

It goes very straight when paddling, and has a little storage compartment separate from cockpit to keep things dry. Also has little paddle strap on the side to hold your paddle to the kayak when not paddling. I got the green one and it is a nice bright color i like it.*
