Enjoyed your video. If you did this in 2019, a lot has changed since then. I did the ride from PA to Deadhorse to Key West back to PA on my 2015 Victory Vision. The weather during my ride was very, very cooperative. Some light rain in spots on the Dalton with a few construction zones to maneuver through. But the smoothest patch of asphalt was 57 miles south of Deadhorse all the way up. You probably would have ranted less towards the end😆. Well done to earn your bragging rights of conquering the Dalton.

Enjoyed this video. My brother is planning a ride from Denver to Deadhorse for next summer...... on a Harley softtail (terrible idea). He wants me to go with him, and I'm probably going to pick up a used bmw r1150gs with proper tires for the trip. Any advice in terms of "must have" gear, etc.?

Yes, Vancouver has its skid row area, as every major city in North America does. I'm sure there are certain places in Atlanta where you'd only want to visit with a police escort...

I love the Waterton area. Have lived in Alberta for over 50 years and until 2020 had never gone there. Now it's an annual destination for me. BTW, can confirm the Thirsty Bear is not a gay bar (it can't be, because I was in there). 😀

Waterton is a beautiful spot in the world. Yes, the Thirsty Bear isn’t a gay bar, just a funny sounding name. When I took the boat tour, when they asked if there were any questions, “Where are the whales?” I asked. “The Prince of Wales Hotel is right there, on that hill.” The guide answered. I guess since it sounded just like Whale, the guide won that one! lol
@kingkrimson8771 Жыл бұрын
@@motohawk602 Haha good stuff. The Prince of Wales has been featured a number of times on TV, including the recent Prime video series "Tin Star". It was built by the Great Northern Railroad in 1927.

@hikewithhawk2 жыл бұрын
@@tomnordick8859 I bought it for the range and Honda’s reputation for reliability and wide availability of Honda shops for service. I had some issues though. Clogged fuel filter led to a breakdown. This was a specific problem in the Adventure Sports for 2019. The issue was the excess flux from the welding/soldering process to attach the fuel pump inside the gas tank wasn’t wiped away and the tank sealant was sprayed over it. After a few months with fuel in the tank, the flux and sealant began to free float in the tank, leading to a blockage of the fuel filter. (The fuel filter is inside the gas tank, making the repair particularly difficult). This issue has since been the subject of a recall. As it was still under warranty, I paid nothing for it, but did have plan 5 days of “sightseeing” in some small town in Wyoming… Then i went through 4 front fork seals, I’d recommend buying “shock socks” because the road grime got in the shock, then in compressed and ate up the shock seals. The final drive failed to. I think I may have lost a bearing in the Yukon because after that, I began hearing an odd sound from the rear. I kept going for several thousand miles and it got much worse. I stopped at a shop in Reno, they said the noise wasn’t failed bearings, but the rear brakes. In replaced the pads for the rear brake and the parking brake. Well, it broke down about 250 miles later near Elko, NV. So I got to spend some time “sightseeing” in Elko too. It sucked. I added a couple of cameras and a trunk box that served me well. Would I recommend it? Not sure, I still own this one…

So I found your video and am skipping through it to see if I can find the stickers we placed on signs all over Alaska in 2019. I'm compelled to comment because as I watched you on the northbound trek over the pot-holed road I was wondering about your fork seals. I have an Africa Twin, 2017 non-DCT, and I didn't notice my failed fork seals until I was almost back to Fairbanks. I finished the ride home (Seattle area) on the leaky forks then did an upgrade at home. What a great experience, would not do it again!

Same…. Would not do again… I replaced my seals in Anchorage and then again in Calgary. The roads up there are rough and the Honda seals must be held together with hope and love….

Enjoyed your Volume 21 Coldfoot to Deadhorse episode, as I have been seriously thinking about making the ride and watching a lot of video's. However, after seeing the road with miles and miles of potholes with mud/rain for a lot of the trip, I think California HY1 will be all the adventure I need. Surely it is a once in a lifetime trip, but although I enjoy an adventure, I can think of hundreds of places to go to that offer fantastic scenery, unpaved roads, but a lot better maintained roads.

It handles well.... I have enjoyed it many days and, full disclosure, hated it on other days. I pushed it pretty hard. I bought it in April of 2019 and rode it to Deadhorse, Alaska via Quebec.... In 2019 I rode 26,000 miles and many of those on dirt and mud. That said, I'm forgiving of the mechanical failures because I was pushing the horse harder than the designers ever intended.

Bummer you had to learn the hard way but this could have been caught much sooner by yourself AND ESPECIALLY THE HONDA MAINTENANCE TECHS!!
@cputeq0074 жыл бұрын
I gotta ask, did you perform any troubleshooting yourself for the problems? I've only been riding about 16 months, but I've already learned nobody knows your bike better than you. I was surprised you mentioned some possible causes (loose calipers) but then didn't actually video any of what they looked like (maybe edited out)? You could just wiggle a caliper or visually inspect it for some problems (missing bolt), take a look at the pads, etc. When you mentioned the rattling from the rear, literally the first thing I thought of was "bearings". A quick pop of the center stand and rolling the rear in neutral while listening to the axle area would have been good -- I can't believe the shop also missed that >,< Really sucks to have issues! I'm surprised you got charged for the tank issue -- I would be raising hell at Honda for that
