I like the idea of using him as a fuel cell for sacrifice, and was considering using cards like feed the pack and deaths presence to do that. It also occurred to me that if you wanted to build with death triggers being a focus, putting the -1/-1 could be a solid move to instantly kill each time you cast.

Very good job on the video. It took me a long time to figure Codie out. For me Codie is all about your curve. When you built Codie in a specific way, you almost always know which kind of effect you can expect from the top of your library. 1 and 2 Mana is spot removal (except your specific strategy), 3 and four Mana in my version is card draw or card selection (mostly on commands or charms to be very interactiv and always have the answer) and 5 mana and above is flashy stuff like brass bounty, boardwipes, mizzix's mastery, Approach, True Polymorph, Expansion/Explosion and Titanias Command. I really see the value and fun in those 0 Mana spells mentioned, but sadly they are all sorcery speed. For them to work in the right way you completely limit yourself to said speed. When I started brewing codie I had cards like Open the Gates in my deck and often faced the situation not being able to cast this 1 Mana spell due to its speed. That sucked. Now my deck starts with sorceries only in the 4 Mana and up slots, so I won't take myself out of the game. The most important ingredients in Codie are in my oppinion modular cards like Confounding Riddle. You got a good counterspell or card selection. With Codie in the Commandzone I never find myself screwed. One interesting thing to keep in mind for Codie are Split cards. For those cards the combined mana value of both spells counts for Codie so when you flip for example Expansion/Explosion it counts as a 6 Mana spell and most of the time doesn't count as Codies target. When you meet Codie and Zirda on Arena Brawl it is probably me. Peace out.

Thank you for your video! So helpful. Quick question, when you flicker a saga, and it re-enters the battlefield, does it enter with any lore counters? And, if so, does that Chapter trigger immediacy?

What about Esika as your commander and filling up the deck with low cmc green legendaries to act as mana dorks?

In some cases you could have sigardian zealots ability first to give your commander a boost first, THEN give counters from your commander making the creature that your commander targets that turn a lot bigger....or you could have your commander in turn also give sigardian zealot a big boost after him giving your commander a boost and he gives bigger boosts next turn too.

Very helpful. I had recently made an Illuna, Apex of Wishes deck with a bunch of the godzilla-cards for a friend of mine, but the more I started to play it, the sadder I felt about having to give it up. I ended up really falling in love with the mutate mechanic, so I had to find a mutate-commander for myself and wanted it to be a Godzilla monster as sort of a rival-deck to Ghidorah. When I saw this card (As Rodan), I knew I loved the idea, but didn't know which direction I wanted to go with it. Usually EDHrec helps me figure out a general blueprint, but Vadrok specficially seemed to be really used as a low to the ground Super-Friends enabler and I wasn't too excited about that idea. Instead, I saw the potential of something like a storm-styled deck that just flooded value off of the Vadrok triggers, then turning said value into board presence and power with stuff like Young Pyromancer, Monatery Swiftspear, Guttersnipe, Ominous Roost and Sea, etc. This loop you've presented was just the kind of stuff I was looking for to make that dream a reality. I saw the potential of the bounce, but wasn't sure how I wouldn't run out of gas in that process, but this loop definitely works. A new piece of tech I actually do want to highlight for the cost-reductors is Hinata, Dawn-Crowned. It's a card in Jeskai colors that decreases the generic cost of spells for each target of the spell and increases accordingly for the opponent. It's also another example of why mutate is such a based mechanic, because there are so many small subtleties to how it works. Because mutate targets, Hinata works as an effective cost reductor for our spells, while taxing any opponent's interaction. Really cool tech. Also, Gandalf's Sanction is a hilarious way to cap a Vadrok-game. If you ever find yourself milling yourself out, just trigger Gandalf's Sanction for a trampling burn spell that scales off of instants and sorceries in the graveyard. Probably one of the funniest ways to ambush an opponent late game.

Steelshaper's Gift is the way to go. The card costs less than $1, so its great even if you have a low budget.

Skullbriar's actual biggest weakness is bounce effects, especially with how popular Cyclonic Rift is. While you didn't explicitly mention it, sacrifice outlets can also be used to preserve his counters if the opponent(s) try to force him into a non-public knowledge area. Thanks, I've been trying to find a workaround for that specific interaction for a while.

You can actually just send Skullbriar to the command zone any time he would switch zones, ie your hand or library. So you essentially can keep your counters indefinitely

I am in the middle of making a Kestia bestow/mutate clone tempo deck. Any removal leaves my with the other permanent and another clonable, mutatable target to start over with. This is even worse if I flicker its base bounce creature in response, turning it into a trap that taxes removal. Zur can use manifest enchantments to manifest hexproof mutate targets repeatedly. Used in conjunction with ninja bounce, your opponents will be traumatized just trying to figure out if the 2/2 mutant is actually a 8/8 with double strike or just a basic plains. Tatsunari, Toad Rider creates a creature in sultai that is worth mutate cloning, which is itself a win-con when it drains opponent's lives for enchantments being cast. Bonus: mutate Vadrak onto Feather to create a flexible combat trick deck that can also recur utility pieces. By using heroic creatures that trigger when you target them, things get even more spicy! 🥵

I think there is way too little to none recursion for these hidden commanders. One Wipe or Spot-Removal and youre dead in the water, otherwise very cool Lists and Inspiriations - allthough the New Niv Mizzet Surpreme pretty much replaces the entire last list

idk if it was out at the time but 'See the Truth' is probably a better version of Ancestral Visions since it also let's you 'draw' 3 when cast from Vadrok, but you can also cast it normally so it doesn't get stranded in your hand without a way to discard. Also the fact that it adds to hand instead of drawing may be relevant if you've got Narsets or new sheoldreds in ur playgroup

Reaver Titan is a house in this deck. Does 10 damage to a player. 5 to each opponent on attack and lastly protection from mana value 3 or less. Can't be targeted by path to exile or plowshares.
