Sadly, I well remember each of these incidents, particularly those of the Derbyshire and the Herald of Free Enterprise. Up to the Herald tragedy I had enjoyed carefree sailing on ferries to France. Everything changed after the Herald, I lost my innocence of carefree travelling on ferries. Despite legislation intended to protect passengers lives, the Philippines and African ferries kill huge numbers of passengers on a depressingly frequent basis!

This is awful! The coal bunkers were not located in the center of the ship. What kind of heck talk is this? Nice tie. The coal bunkers were located along both walls in a longitudinal arrangement to in theory protect the machines in between. This was mandated by the British government who was putting the building money upfront for this ship. How can the suppose experts appear with a straight face here? The very definition of ignorance… Thinking you know.

Wow! We just booked voyager of the seas, our first time cruise, we saw reviews saying it’s one of the older and smaller ships. I felt a little disappointed at first.. but it’s crazy to think that a mere 23-24 years ago it was the worlds largest ship! I wanted to go on a cruise so bad when I was a kid and this ship came out when I was about 10. This changes my perspective completely. I’m basically living the high life my parents couldn’t afford when I was a kid 😂❤ and the documentary says they are competing with Disney… that makes sense since we decided to cruise with our children because it looked like a fun vacation that was a lot more affordable than Disney world. We are so excited to go!

Go Dive Marlborough (not affiliated but I love those guys!) offer almost all TDI training courses there - you won't find a better place to do TDI Advanced Wreck with real-world siltouts, something everyone NEEDS to experience to realise what 'zero viz' means and just how long it takes to settle, but to do it in total safety. It truly is one of the world's best wreck dives because it's accessible to EVERYONE. At just 14m to the port side, someone fresh out of their OW course can traverse the entire ship in bright lighting, looking into 1st class cabins on the Promenade deck, and safely traverse the large, open, bright Bolshoi lounge with open windows and exits everywhere. But it's also a lovely advanced OW dive, with the engine room being a simply swim through the skylights at 27m, straight ahead (there's a line) to the port cylinder heads, then up the stairs to the bunker room door on the port side, which has no door, it's the 2nd easiest engine room I've ever dived. Parts of the ship are best suited to rebreathers (I blow bubbles and make silt!), and others you should never enter - it literally offers perfect diving for every conceivable level of diver, nobody will leave disappointed. My fears of her deteriorating are proving less of a concern than they were, the upper aluminium decks dropping down in the Kaikoura quake spoiled her beauty, but it also opened the Cargo hold and other new ways in so I think over the years we'll be able to reach more and more of her safely.

Once uppon a time was the largest cruise ship in the world. But today most largest surpases him for more 100,000 tons!. Aniway, voyager of the seas was impressive at the moment of his first travel. I remember i see a brochure of this ship and i and my friends feel a deep admiration for his size and design.

Watching this now in 2022 is almost hilarious, seeing how this ship was designed in 1996 with pens and paper and primitive computers (as opposed to VR screens and CAD design stations)…all for a ship, the Voyager class, that has LONG been passed by as “the state of the art” and “Royal Caribbean’s BIGGEST SHIP EVER” and is now considered “old and boring “ compared to the Quantum and Oasis class ships (and maybe whatever the heck the Icon class ends up being!)

This was extremely interesting, and yet another reason why I think James Cameron is another one of Hollywood's bad apples. Aside from likely hastening the decomposition of the Titanic he also never issued a public statement just a breif "I didn't know there was a J.Dawson" nor did he apologize to the family for attracting fangirls/boys of the film to poor Joe Dawson's grave, likely causing wear and tear. also the film is garbage, so many inaccuracies including an impossible 3'rd-1'st class love story (which was cheesy and not in a so bad it's good way) as mentioned in this documentary.

OMFG There were like two (three?) documentaries I watched endlessly in my youth about cruise ships, and I only remembered the title of one of them - ‘Cities on the Sea’. I found that one on your channel, so I thought I’d check out your other vids. And … holy carp, here’s the other docu. Well that’s my evening’s schedule all filled up now. EDIT: I have to ask - how did you get these? Did you just record all these on VHS back in the day? That’s what I (well, my mother) did, but I tossed out those cassettes eons ago. Came to regret that.
@noc12113 жыл бұрын
My … god. My mother recorded this documentary (and a slightly older one featuring the Grand Princess whose title is long lost to me) on VHS when I was a kid. I think I watched it until the cassette was about ready to fall apart. I spent years looking to see if anyone anywhere had a copy, and now I find this. What a blast from the past. Too bad about the first half, but oh well. Bless ya for posting this.

Will Lyman: one of my absolute idols in voice-overs. The only person I can think of in the VO industry I hold in higher esteem is Peter Thomas. Sadly, as of 30 April 2016, Peter is no longer with us. However, in present day, if you have a documentary that requires a serious voice and if you can afford him, you can't ever go wrong with Will.

Alma and Gordon Hicks were two of four children who lost their lives in the disaster. Another was Colin Johnson, age 6. In 2008 when commemorating the 40th anniversary, Colin's two brothers Neil and Ian, who were 7 and 5 at the time and were among the 37 children who survived the sinking were featured in a news segment on the tragedy.
