1988 was the first year for the trip odometer in both the square bodies & new OBSs. Also in 1988, the 4.3 litre V6 & 305 V8 were dropped on the square bodies.

1983 was the last year for the windshield wiper switch on the dash & the high beam low beam switch on the floor. In 1984, both switches were moved up to the steering column. Those square body models were built from 1973 - 1991 except the plain cab pickups "half ton & three quarter ton models only" were finished in 1987, & the one ton plain cab pickups & medium duty models were finished in 1989.

1984 was the last year for the 250 inline six. In 1985, a new base 4.3 litre V6 was introduced which replaced the previous 250 inline six.

@@SunrayGarage what makes that pickup there unique is 1983 was the first year for the grille, headlight bezels, & front blinker lights with those designs, & the last year for the wiper switch on the dash & the high beam low beam light switch on the floor.

@@SunrayGarage the base motors in those square body models were a 250 inline six from 1973 - 1984, 4.3 litre V6 from 1985 - 1987, 292 inline six in 1988, & a 350 V8 from 1989 - 1991. The base V8 motors in them were a 307 in 1973, 350 with a 2 barrel carburetor from 1974 - 1976, 305 from 1977 - 1987, & a 350 from 1988 - 1991.

It’s not actually new, it’s just reprogrammed, for gears, tap shift, Etc..

FYI, you can swap your 170 amp alternator with a 220 amp one from a diesel. There is also a dual alternator bracket you could use (Alternator and Power Steering Pump Bracket - GM (12652395). Would you be open to selling one of your 32 spline 205's? I am in illinois. It is for my 72 K% L8t swap.

That's a great Idea! I'll have to look into that. if you can find a cheap 10 spline 205, machine it for the large 90mm input bearing.

I am in the middle of doing my 72 K5 with an L8t. I am struggling to decide whether I want to go Holley Term x max for gen 5, convert to ported and use Term x max for gen 4 or pay the outrageous cost to unlock my factory ecm to run HP tuners. I am tuning in to see how yours goes. You going 4wd or 2wd? which trans? EDIT>>> JUST watched your other video. 6 speed and np205.
