I have front height and top middle...because I am sitting by the back wall, and this is probably the best atmos setup anyone can do when you don't have any space behind you. I also tried my Klipsch rp500sa atmos speakers on top of the front towers and I got zero sound bouncing back to me. I am sitting 10ft away from the speakers and the ceiling is 8ft high. Normal ceiling; no ceiling tiles or anything that would absorb sound. When I disconnected the towers and checked the atmos demos, I heard all the sounds coming straight from the atmos speakers. Anyway, I ended up putting them up on the front wall and I liked them a lot. Dolby amaze sounded superb when the rain and thunders came on. You could easily tell the sound was coming from higher. The front sound stage completely opened up. After a few weeks of enjoying my front heights I finally had time to run the cables to my in ceiling speakers, what I use as top middle. I must say, top middle sounds so much more immersive than heights. I actually barely hear the front heights anymore. Even tho the speakers are all level calibrated using rew. I won't remove the front heights, but if anyone want's to do x.x.2 atmos I would say go for top middle. I would never waste my in ceiling speaker on front top alone. It's either top middle OR front top and rear top together as x.x.4. That said I would love to hear the difference between front and rear heights vs front and rear top. I know tehnno dad did a video about that and he preferred the heights over the tops

Makes sense as in music soundstage is upfront not much would be coming from top. This would be entirely different in movies where you have flying objects above your head

Joe made the best and most practical response. What he is referring to is known as the proximity effect. It is generally and ideally recommended to have a minimum distance of 3-4 feet. The main point of setting minimum distances there is to reduce proximity effect and at the same time gain a proper emersion level which is the main job of surround speakers afterall. Now in cases of too small, confined spaces or even irregular rooms, speaker type and size, advised speaker angles and positions, in addition to recommended speaker height from ear level, play a relatively much more important role in all HT setups and is definitely effective in mitigating a too close surround speaker issues particularly with multiple seating positions.

I’ve got the klipsch Flexus core 200 soundbar in the living room. It has a sub out which is connected to a mini DSP. Running to subs with option to add 2 more. Calibrated with REW it sounds great.

I had in ceiling speakers and now i have the ht-a9s it's good enough for me that I won't waste my time installing in ceiling speakers again. With most atmos content i had to get on a chair to see if my in ceiling speakers were were stil working.

Look at the new Sonus Faber's and their blurb on using isolators. It's not what they are, or what they can bring, it's the perception that these things are essential for ones' speakers to perform optimally. It's yet another bottle of snake oil being sold, and fundamentals ignored, in place of expensive, and often futile fixes.

For me, your subscriber numbers say it all. Some of the best minds in audio, and you've got 11k subscribers. Stick a 16-year-old in a Lambo sponsored by his parents, and you'll have 1,000,0000k subscribers in no time. Bose, for all their ills and all the audiophile community criticism, have outlasted the competition, plain and simple! We can cry all we want, but it seems that few very people in the world are bothered.

I am curious what this program would do in my home theatre. But I also think that this way of calibrating is more interesting if you have high end speakers. Or speakers with a sound signature you love (a lot of people buy speakers for the looks or functionality😉). AND if all your spreakers are from the same brand/line. From my experience, If you want that surround "dome" I find it sounds best if all the speakers have the same sound signature. I have 13 Kef T series speakers in my 7.1.6 setup. I know these aren't the best speakers. But my priority was functionality. So for me Audyssey Multieq X is more than enough.. I did follow the measured response on my MLP. So I kept boosting to a minimum. And I also don't EQ all the way up till 20khz. The end result isn't a flat curve at all. But it sounds natural and spaceious. 👌🏻 I now got an "even" soundstage all around me. 👌🏻

The problem with Anthony Grimani is that...he seems to make things very complicated and show off his knowledge, but in the end he did not give you any practical tips to improve you sound. It like: oh there are a lot of things and measurement you have to do...but ring me, i will do it for you but dont forget to pay. I do not know much about room acoustic, but the easiest way is to cover your music room with real timber wall...it is the natural sound treatment and will improve your sound tremendously without too much technical things. I used to live in a wooden house and had an old pair of AR15 speakers and nothing sound like it did, so warm, so involving...when i moved my house...these speaker end up on the the street for collection because it did not sound anything like before, just like a crap speaker as it is.

I have yet to see any measurements for this. I've seen many videos claiming it sounds better, but have yet to see any objective evidence for this. In my mind the only reason to have separates is if you need more power. That's it. It will not make your system sound better. AVRs have a very low noise floor even with all channels driven. Any noise is most certainly not audible.

For every action there consequences. Every additional stage in the signal path, will reduce the purity of that signal. Cause degradation to the fidelity of that signal. dSP is no exception. So the end user has to make his own mind up as to whether the benefits that DSP may bring, outweigh the inherent caveats unavoidable by adding a further processing stage to the signal source. There is no right or wrong, just personal preference.

Setting your crossover to 60Hz you may as well set it to Large with double bass. You're running them full range at 60Hz.

Phantom center works for 2 channel music or movies. From 5.1 and up, a center speaker is the most important, because more than 70% of the "action" is there. A surround track is mixed with a center channel in mind, with specific information going to that speaker.

Not sure why this old video snuck into my feed, but I will add my answer. My speaker brand of choice is Paradigm and they offer amazing centers that can go all the way up to being a near copy of their large towers, but horizontal. However, with all of that said I still find that I always prefer skipping their center altogether and running "phantom" center. So my favorite all time center was my pair of Paradigm Persona 3f without a center that meant they were creating the phantom center themselves, essentially giving me a virtual 3rd 3f roght between them where it was impossible for a real one to be.

It seems like all the hype is over... Did this project fail? It's been one year since launch, and I haven't seen any reviews of Magic Beans yet? Also, one would expect paid software to be able to transfer the filters to the AVR on its own, just like the free OCA A1 EVO script does... And what about bass management? If you apply the PEQ filter to each channel independently, you'd never be able to get rid of room modes properly as A1 EVO does for free (for Denon/Marantz AVRs).

It seems like the better nomenclature would by 7.1(3).6 or 9.1(3).4, to describe 3 redundant subs on 1 discrete subwoofer channel.
