When you walk away, if you don't turn back and look at the bike, you bought the wrong bike. I reckon you gave the KTM a good enough run to determine whether you loved it or not. Also, you don't need to be doing challenging rides to have fun, enjoy the touring! You'll love the ABH tours, it's the perfect blend of touring and offroad. It's not crazy difficult, but it is still challenging enough to build a strong desire for bourbon at the end of the day. Bring on 2025!!

Enjoy the new ride mate . I run the Pirelli Scorpion STR on my vstrom 800DE. They are a good tyre for general touring, soft so wont last on the road but grip well in wet and dry. Off road they are average . Just good for graded fire trails. You may struggle in any mud or sand . I have done the watagans main roads and other mix of average roads and dirt. Hi Brett, Ducati Transparent Maintenance schedule (Edition 2023) puts the DDX 1000 km Oil Service (service code 11LU) at taking a Ducati authorised technician 1 hour and 6 minutes to perform. I removed the skid plate (to save potential damage to mounting fixture threads) so actual time should have gone down. Consumables were $124. Total cost $473.89 for what Ducati says is less than 1:06 hours work. Appreciate workshops are expensive facilities to setup but this labor rate is (in my opinion) excessive for an activity that a Cert 3 level qualification and a couple of short courses represent the base training. Looking at alternatives for future servicing, including undertaking myself and having one of our contractor crew (who happens to hold a Cert 3 in Motorcycle Technology) check and sign off to fulfill warrantee requirements. Would happily support my closest dealer IF a reasonable hourly rate was applied AND Ducati's own schedule times were applied. Best of luck with your experience. Cheers

Funny what we do and don't like. I went to test ride a Desert X with the intention to buy (a black one) after the online reviews were unanimous in their love for it. Ended up being a horrible test ride; uncomfortable standing position, I didn't like the initial clutch takeup- felt like it was going to stall, pegs pushed my legs too wide even waiting at lights and im 6f2in, that would exaggerate off road stability and then the heat on the legs after 20min. But I know guys who ride them and love them. So all the best in your new travels, and I fully appreciate the importance of needing a bike that gets you excited 'down there'.

Did you consider the Aprilia at all. It will come down to a coin toss this week for me between the DDX and the Aprilia. DDX at $3000 off is a bit of a sweetener as being a short ass I need to spend to lower and soften the suspension. Have had good luck with Ducati over the years (touch wood) but something about the Aprilia gives me second thoughts. I am hoping the DDX would replace two bikes ( small adv and 900 super sport) and like you in regards to a bit more blacktop in my senior years. I think KTM were being cagey and not booking any warranty work until after the January court decision.

@ADVBrett15 күн бұрын
Hey Skuffy, I did contact them about it but they were too busy in the immediate timeframe to get it fixed. I called them in late December and they couldn't get the 890 in until Feb. Considering it was an issue with brakes I would have though they would consider that a serius issue and try and get the bike in. My thoughts from there were "if this is what they're like about brakes, what will they be like if I have other issues like cam shafts?" The legend that bought the bike has a KTM dealer really close to home so at least he's got someone closer in the event he has any other issues.
@Skuffy196915 күн бұрын
Thanks for the quick response. I have had a few issues (warranty related) on my bike which I actually do like riding. Point is, my local dealer is excellent and are concerned about reputation and are concerned with customer well being. I believe that is the main difference - giving a damn.

I picked up a Desert X 3 months ago have done 3500km so far and has been a great bike so far. I also came from having an AT previously. The Ducati is much more competent on and offroad. You do need to ride it differently as power is a bit higher up. It is a true 50/50 bike. I have changed the seat to the rally(big difference comfort wise i found the stock seat soft especially if you are 6 foot plus), added crash bars and bark busters. I also found the X had more mechanical grip and better front end feel once you adjust the suspension settings closer to the offroad setting. The AT is still a great bike just more of a tourer. I liked the sound of my old AT more but everything else is better on the X. Enjoy it.
