@@Gibsunday I find it somewhat ironic that probably the most iconic Epi Casino is John Lennon’s ‘rooftop’ version on which he had all of the paint removed and yet it’s Gibson who comes out with their similar appearing natural ES 330 version, leaving Epi USA with a demand, but no natural finish Casinos to sell. I love your walnut 330, btw with the extra fret access, so rare and looks awesome.

Hey man. I just picked one up on reverb. Waiting for it to show. Spent some time with one in my local shop. But 15% off on a reverb offer that got accepted makes it waaay easier to say yes to. Stoked. Too bad it got so much "it's too expensive" hate. Tho that probably helped me get a deal on one.

Great Video, pretty Music, beautiful Guitar. When I was 15 my parents helped me buy my 1st good electric guitar. I had my heart set on the red 335 (1966) but the price was prohibitive. Instead, we bought the metallic Burgundy ES 330, which was I think $150 less (a LOT back then). It was beautiful, light, etc. It sounded great (even the pleasant feedback when cranked up a bit), but I never liked the "short neck" limited upper frets access.Back then I never appreciated it & considered it a "poor man's ES 335". This was before '67 when they finally placed the neck at the 19th Fret. If mine would have been that way, I would have kept, & used it. I even later added a Bigsby tremelo, but it just wasn't the 335 that I wanted & was always disheartened over it, besides - at the time I didn't think this was the type of guitar for the direction I was heading (power Trio Blues/Rock via Cream, etc). I had the guitar for I think a year & a Half, then I saw a picture of Eric Clapton playing his world famous "painted-up" 1961 SG/Les Paul. Knowing that's all it took, I was hell-bent to find one. I spread the word around & lucky enough, later on this Drummer in a real good band (all HS Upper Classmen) told me his Guitarist (super good) got his Gretch stolen & got the SG instead. Still wishing a hollow body electric, he was in search for a replacement. We got together - he liked my 330, I loved his SG/LP - right there we made an instant "Even-Trade Swap" (that's how you did it back then when all you had was your allowance, etc.). He was happy & I was out-of-my-mind ecstatic over my Red "Eric Clapton" SG. I used that guitar for several years in some very good Blues/Rock bands. While my parents were unhappy with my all of a sudden Swap (especially my Dad, who said the SG was just a "Hunk of Wood" compared to the beautiful Hollow body 330). Nevertheless I was never more happy & never missed the 330 (too short of neck etc) except how new & beautiful it was- and for my parents being so kind to help me buy it (1/2 & 1/2). Many year later I finally got my 335 - a very faded & worn-out 1968 (metallic burgundy- just like my 330, but now an old "gold-top") with an ultra thin neck to 'die" for, which I still have & play every day - sounds incredible. Thanks for this fine video.

I've previously owned two vintage Hummingbirds. Great guitars although not great enough to keep compared to other Gibsons, Martins, Collings, Adamas and other acoustics I have owned. I now also own a G-Bird. I honestly do no know how Gibson can afford to make a guitar of this quality and sell it for such a low price. As to the player port, if you haven't tried one then don't denigrate it - for recording it is fantastic as you can monitor your tone as you play. I wish Gibson would offer a player port on some of their higher end guitars. I wouldn't be surprised in coming years if the G-Bird isn't sought after the way low end Gibson's of the 60s (LGOs and the like) are sought after now. Just my experience but if you have a good ear you'll appreciate what a great guitar for the price this is.

T-Tops are manufactured and built into new guitars by Gibson under the name T-Type. Those are virtually the exact pickups as played by BB King, Angus Young, etc. I looked up the blue guitar. Tho ugly it may be, it is an £7k custom shop guitar with Gibson Custombucker pickups. They sound phantastic IMO, and as expected from a 335. The boutique T-Tops sound great in their own way, and more suited for some specific styles, while the Custombuckers are somewhat more versatile. Having two such exquisite guitars is a great privilege, tho I personally couldn't get over the blue colour, even if it was otherways perfect.

100% right because once you change something within the manufacturing process, that will cause the cost to rise just as a side effect.

This guitar does have a thick maple top, and a maple flame veneer on top of that. When I remove my pick ups from the guitar, you can see the slab of maple on top of the mahogany. It is also listed in the description on Sweetwater: “”sporting a mahogany body, pickguard-free maple top, and AAA flame maple veneer”” so basically it’s a three-piece body from front to back.

Strings are easier to bend on a shorter scale guitar. Not true. Only very slightly different, almost negligible. There’s a loss of tone with lighter gauge strings. Not true. Not on an electric. The Gibson nut needs to be dressed to compensate for the too sharp angle of the D and G strings. Wind them from the bottom up to help even more, especially the G.

I like the Theo...6 in line tuners usually stay in tune better than 3+3, layout of controls is perfect, 1 volume + 1 tone is all you need, fret access in higher range looks good. Probably light weight and comfortable. Top pointy horn could cause some liver or rib damage, but other than that, looks like a solid guitar. The folks in China are no doubt working on a Chibson version, but the cost of the real thing sounds reasonable to me.

What are the pickups in your 335? They sound great! Definitely not stock. And-“trapeze” is pronounced “trapEEZ”, not “trapeezy”. The final “e” is silent. There were changes made to these models over the years-the 335 and 345 came standard with stop tailpieces until about 1964, when they both got trapeze tailpieces. Bigsby or Vibrola vibratos were available as options, but they weren’t standard. Nut widths on Gibsons generally got narrowed down from 1-11/16” to 1-9/16” in about 1966, but I used to have a 1965 SG Standard with the narrow nut. Standard finish on the 355 was Cherry, but a very few have turned up in Sunburst or Natural, likely custom orders. I love that Natural 355 you’re playing!
