I could never understand why a lot of people crap on Gibson and Epiphone. Usually there are different reasons because of price and it doesn’t have the modern appointments. If you want modern both companies have that for that player. When you talking about a 59’ it’s the inspiration of just that. I think a lot of people have to much time on their hands and want to voice their opinion whether it’s sound or not. I love Gibson because most of my guitar hero’s played them and as a kid we get inspired. What might work for someone might not work for you. It’s simple logic. Less talking and more playing will make you a happier person lol. I like that Epiphone is stepping up their game and I know that still the Kirk 59’ Epiphone is still too expensive for some doesn’t mean that if someone wants to buy one? Let em. Most people don’t even know that before Epiphone was bought out by Gibson they were Guitars that were more expensive than them. They were very high end and designed Jazz boxes for the professional player. With Epiphone today they want to have a line that is higher quality and I think they can achieve that with Gibson backing them up. I also think that in the future there will be more models for their USA line. With dealers that are now able to have 12-18 months payments will get more people to invest in either a Gibson or Epiphone. Why should we crap on a good idea? It makes no sense to me. Get more guitars in people’s hands is a good thing.

Well, I got a new Epiphone 1959 LP Standard outfit in 2023 for 749.00 with free shipping from Sam Ash.. It's got the Burstbucker pickups, CTS pots, Mallory caps, hardshell vintage case, etc. - all the same stuff that the Greeny has. The fretwork, fit, and finish is remarkable. I can not understand paying twice as much for an open book headstock, mismatched knobs, and a "Greeny" name.

@user-wl1gg4re6s I thought the Greeny was $1499? Other than the Burstbucker vs. Custombucker, I don't see the extra $750. I have Strats with bolt on necks (they sound just fine), so the long vs. standard tenon joint doesn't matter to me. I congratulate those who bought a Greeny - it's a nice tribute, but I just can't justify twice the price. Just me.

When the Adam Jones (art model) was first released, I hesitated due to the price of $1299. But, as I'm a big Jones fan, I ordered one anyway. When I got it in my hands, setup and plugged in, it all became obvious WHY this guitar costs what it does. I just bought the new Epiphone '59, which is another great offering, and the new Adam Jones is next on my list. Epiphone is doing a fantastic job with these new models. I still own several Gibsons, and I enjoy them. But now, the new Epi's just make more sense for me.

This price point for this specific type of guitar; the recreated artist models, are mostly justified. I just grabbed the adam jones 79 silverburst from epiphone. Its a solid guitar. But I'll say this, its only worth that price because its an artist model. No where else are you coming close to a 79 silverburst in real life for anywhere near this price. So, i think its justified. A normal Epiphone les paul custom with similar treatment and price? Nah, not worth it. But these artist models get you something just a little special for the money, and theh deliver.

I think you are missing a point here. I have higher end Epi LPs (1959 Outfit, and 50s Standard) and for a 650 euro and 300 euro used mint they were great guitars for the price. We are talking here 1749 euro for poly Epiphone. I bought in last 2 years 2 Gibson Les Paul Tributes (for together 1330 euro or so) and I would take any of them any day. Greeny and new Firebirds are joke. You can buy Gibson Les Paul Standard for 2k, switch pickups to Greenybuckers for 150 eur (difference after selling originals) and you will be much better off with guitar that will weight less, resonate more and certainly age much better.

I did not know all of this about the Greeny it now give me more to argue with about those complaining about the price. I commented breaking down a guys video called Do Not Buy Greeny where I didn’t watch the whole video because he was only complaining about the price and didn’t even have the Greeny to review. His argument was you can buy a 59 reissue Epiphone Lemon burst and mod it. Well to mod the guitar with Greeny Buckers and Grover tuners would cost $1,400 or a bit more not including labor to swap out pickups and the tuners so the argument is dead in the water that this guitar is too expensive. Like you said we have all been wishing for better quality from Epiphone well better quality comes with a cost. I am also a believer in if you don’t have something constructive to say then don’t say anything at all! If you don’t like this guitar fine no one is forcing you to buy it there are cheaper Epiphone’s so you can buy that but let those of us who appreciate what Gibson are doing for the guitar community have our right to buy this instrument without having to hear you spout nonsense and make yourself look like the ass you are while doing so.

I would put it like this. The japan factories got a hold of og original gibsons and fenders and meticulously did their best to copy these gibson. What i feel gibson did was take that same idea and the inspired by gibsons were done from scans of the 60s guitars and changed the angles and frets and glues and paint. Basically let epiphone copy great vintage guitars. So maybe think of these style of epiphones as one of the more accurate clones. Just wish epiphone would use better bridges without the lousy wire retainer bridges and large post with sloppy threads. Hence drilled into the wood like the gibsons. Gibson offers nitro. Better frets. Hardware to last and not rust. Hold potentiometers. And pleced guitar. And other high quality offerings. I like were theyre taking epiphone.

This guitar does have a thick maple top, and a maple flame veneer on top of that. When I remove my pick ups from the guitar, you can see the slab of maple on top of the mahogany. It is also listed in the description on Sweetwater: “”sporting a mahogany body, pickguard-free maple top, and AAA flame maple veneer”” so basically it’s a three-piece body from front to back.

For me, the new 1979 Epiphone Adam Jones model with the open book headstock is going to be a must buy from me in the future. Although, I have been hearing that a Black Beauty model may be coming 👀 Those who say "That's far too expensive for an Epiphone!", let me put it this way. The Matt Heafy models cost being $1099 and $1199. Which in my opinion is one of the best spec'd Epiphones out there and most seem that price point is fair. For $400 more you're getting the real mother of pearl inlays, long neck tenon, stinger, open book headstock, the Custombucker in the neck, etc. That to me is well worth the $1499 price tag. I'm not concerned with my guitar being made in the USA. Epiphone a lot of the time has had better quality control than many Gibsons I've picked up. This guitar is also VERY similar to my 2012 Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom I had in Wine Red. A guitar I still regret having sold to this day.

I’m a bit stuck. I want a Les Paul again. I’ve owned a Gibson 2015 studio (horrible guitar), I’ve owned a 2006 60’s standard (I like a chunkier neck), and I just got rid of a 594 S2 (fun guitar, not what I want from a LP though) I’ve played 2 59 epiphones in guitar center. One was killer, the other one tore up my fingers (probably just in dire need of a set up). But I’m liquidating some gear and I’m stuck on spending a little more for an older LP traditional or maybe one of these 59s. This one has caught my eye because of the unique sound. Idk man lol, what would you do in my shoes?
@Gibsunday
@Gibsunday 7 ай бұрын
Hey John, this is the best kind of pickle to be in because it means you get to go guitar shopping. Selling your 2015 LP was a good move, that was the end of the Henry-era and those guitars were hard to tame and even harder to love. I can’t speak to the 549 S2, because I’ve never played one and rarely get my hands on PRS. If you like the Standards and a chunkier neck, you don’t want a 60’s, you want a 50’s. A ‘59 is a transition-period neck, so it’s not too big or too small. This (Greeny) is an awesome guitar and if you’re looking for something a little odd, look no further. However, if this is your main player, I’d suggest checking out the new Epiphone Inspired by Gibson/Gibson Custom line. What’s your budget?

Because of the Reverse Polarity middle-switch, I would suggest this to someone that's looking for something different/unique--no matter the size of their collection.
