Regular jars can withstand being filled with 100° from room temperature. Don't you rinse them with boiling water to get all the food out? I think it's rapid cooling that you need to avoid. Actually keeping the jars hot would introduce unnecessary rush during filling. Interesting stove with the massive cover.

Late but always here eventually 😂. Glad you’re feeling better and got away for a break. 0:45 oh my lord what a fab red harvest ❤❤. 5:06 cheek of some employees 😂. So much growing and looking amazing, I hope the new brassicas are still safe from the dreaded caterpillars 🐛. Could be birds trying to get I. With the enviromesh 🤬. Awesome corguettes I love the yellow varieties. Hope you have an enjoyable weekend, look after yourself, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

Lovely to see you back on here again and hope you had a relaxing break. What a tomato, courgette and chilli haul. You’ll be busy processing them all now. Sorry to see you had storm damage, it’s so disheartening when that happens. I think I got off lightly as I only lost the top of 1 courgette plant but saying that I’ve only got 2 as it is and it was the better of the 2! Looking forward to your next vlog. Take care 😊

Well Tracey, despite the early slugs , the torrential wind and rain and then the caterpillars I think you should just about be self sufficient this year . You've done some very hard work on the plot this year and now you can reap the rewards . Best wishes and I hope you all have a wonderful break.

It’s been a terrible year with me for carrots. The only sowings that germinated are now harvested and eaten. Nothing for the store. Later sowings to be ready for autumn are either struggling or have bolted like yours. Your plug plants are just the ticket for filling in gaps in the garden. I’ve had poor results with germination of quite a few brassica varieties. We have a handful of savoy. Only 4 PS broccoli that haven’t yet recovered from transplant shock, and 4 swede which are now huuuuge. I planted them too far apart thinking they were savoy!! 😅. All the gaps are filled with greyhound cabbage …. Luckily I had loads of spares. We’ve not got one winter squash fruiting. Just male flowers. I left too much of this year’s spring broccoli stalk above ground and they’re all leafing up again. Decided to keep them going for winter/spring leafy greens given we’ll no doubt be getting bored with greyhound cabbage. Our biggest problem this autumn is nowhere near enough homemade compost to top the beds. All the grass cuttings I used to mulch beds have also disappeared leaving bare earth. Hoping for a better fall of leaves this year to use as a mulch/compost. Last year the leaves trickled down over a period of months that disappeared into the grass. Need a good frost and steady wind to encourage a good old leaf discard! Hope you’re both feeling better. And the rest of your family hasn’t succumbed to the dreaded lurgy.

Rocket Gardens are superb. Glad you have found them I have used them in the past (when I was working) and the plants are always so healthy and have cropped really well. If I remember rightly they are based down in Cornwall. A really good company. Nice to see you back though if only for a little while. Just take it steady Mrsx

Hi. I agree with you about Rocket Gardens being a lovely company. I once brought a subscription from them as a gift for my son and daughter in law which they loved. They had four deliveries over the year of really good quality plug plants for their new veg garden. They were new to growing and the advice that came with the plants enabled them to have an amazing first year of growing. Their kids loved it too and sparked a passion for growing. For the Lillie’s treat them like a tulip and snap off the pod to stop it spending energy on making seeds. The energy needs to go back into the bulb for next year, I leave mine somewhere sheltered over winter and plant again next year. Loving your channel.

Glad you’re feeling a wee bit better ❤️. Me either, I buy plug plants or as we call them starters for sprouts and broccoli and cabbage in late fall. Giant red mustard self seed really well 👍. Top the lily plants just below the flower stub and then wait for the rest of the plant to go “bamboo” like them cut off the rest, it will, help with the bulbs next spring. 12:27 hello Rodney. Great update now feet up if you can with a glass, have an awesome weekend, Ali ☔️🌞🇨🇦

Gutted for you over the broken jar. I always loved Kilner jars but since I started pressure canning, I have found they are more prone to breakages than the Ball mason jars. Out of interest, which roaster oven have you got and has it got a UK plug?

So sorry for the late reply, I’m finally feeling better and catching up! We use the cowboy candy on the usual suspects like burgers or Mexican food. Beautiful on chilli and even on chicken noodle soup! Cheese on toast if I’m feeling that way out, salad, grilled chicken on flatbreads (like Greek gyros for example). Beautiful!!

Yay - love it when a video lands. Garden is looking incredible. I never have any success with beans (or peas for that matter) so always love seeing them looking so lush in other people’s gardens. On your recommendation from the other week I made a salsa verde with our tomatillos and it was blinking delicious. Big jar barely lasted a week - mostly just as a dip for my sourdough crackers 😋😋

Wow Tracy your tomatoes look amazing I have humongous plants and little fruits but the bush plants are laden. Our Yorkie loves blueberries 🫐. 5:43 I have done that loads cutting off tomatoes 🤦‍♀️ or trimming the plants. I over winter nothing 😂 because all my beautiful calabrese and cabbage were rat food in the poly. Plus we get snow so I allow the beds to go for a nap. Never a moments rest Steven 💪 and Tracy. 19:08 secateurs on the corner of the bed 😂. Can Steven make a bean arch with the steel fence panels you have? Absolutely fantastic walk about. I would say have a nice relaxing weekend but I doubt you know how 😂😂, so have a lovely weekend. Grace your garden is stunning ❤. Have a great one, Ali 🥵🌞🇨🇦

It never ceases to amaze the differences in weather zones... down south we've harvested all our currants, summer raspberries and gooseberries and are just starting to bring in the blackberries and the jostaberries... can you remind me what you do with the jostaberries other than jam? The syrup's do they have to be kept in the fridge?
