Everyone in a band plays along with the drummer. If the song is good, the drummer is great.

Lol ... Paul comes in late at 1:44! Steve, the guitar player and probably others smiled but no one missed a beat! I love it!! I feel better about all those on-stage mistakes I've made!! 😃Steve Gadd ... wow!!

It's not that he missed a beat, it's because of the songs quick beat, it was just a silent, semi quaver rest ❤

@@lindaw.5836 Compared to the studio recording, the other recordings of him doing this song, and the one time I heard him live with Steve Gadd, Eric Gayle, Tony Levin ... at the Hammersmith Odeon in London in the early '80s - he most certainly came in late. And that look on the musicians' faces is confirmation. I'm not criticizing Paul by any means. I'm a great fan, and I cut my guitaring teeth palying songs like 'Kathy's Song', 'April, Come She Will', 'Duncan', 'Bleecker Street' ... He's earned the right to come in late! 😊

@irobeen fair enough!😃 How amazing that you've seen them live WoW! That must be a special memory! I think that this song is probably in my top 5 of best ever songs. The positivity coming from the band is so infectious I always find myself grinning, madly when ever I hear it. Im a trumpet player myself and it would be an absolute dream to be playing a jam like that 😊 all the best from Cornwall UK.
