A very loose rule of thumb is to look at the breakfast menu in the area restaurant. If you see grits, you’re in the south.

There's a place in Harold E Alexander WMA with a short trail leading to a natural spring in the creek bed, it's called Bubbling spring, just a hole in the ground with water coming out. Surrounded by water cress in the warm months. Best tasting water I've had anywhere.

One big problem is they have commercialized hunting so much that it has became a rich man’s sport, instead of a sport for all people.
@theozarkpodcastАй бұрын
What do you feel like they’ve done to commercialize hunting?

As a public land hunter I wish there was more publicly available land to hunt. But let’s be honest if I could afford 100acres I wouldn’t let anyone else hunt on it either. So I’ll keep saving and try to find a good piece of land

So the MDC cracks down on "Landowner tags". I have seen reports that up to 30% of the free landowner tags were actually frauds. People wanted free tags so they fudged that they were landowners. He mentions right in the beginning that peak numbers have dropped. How many of those were fake landowners to begin with? Some studies show hunter numbers increasing, others decreasing. I don't buy that we are losing hunters. I think it will be used as an excuse to bring in wolves. Many Feds and animal rights groups want them in all 48 lower states. Check out MN, WI, and MI. See what wolves have done to their deer numbers.

I am glad ralph is there i got a bone to pick lol i am from louisiana but i own land in arkansas. So i bought a nonresident 3 day hunting license to hunt on my land it cost me 175 dollars for one tag 1 deer is all i could kill so that tells me i am after a buck so i hunted i never saw a buck i saw 13 does 1 button buck so i never shot anything last day i never saw a deer i think they need to make it two tags i am on my own land that i pay taxes on not state land i should get a break for private nonresident hunter on my land

Hard to find a spot to deer hunt. The big land owners are asshole that won't let no body on their property and most the small landowners are leasing their ground for crazy high prices. I think the missouri wildlife is over hunted anyway
@nathansackett6890Ай бұрын
I would assume they grow faster if there lifespan is that much shorter. Do they cross breed? And why do some smallmouth have no stripes??? I live in tn and i think what im catching are smallmouth, they live in the creeks and the Cumberland, i also catch spotties at the same holes and eddies
@theozarkpodcastАй бұрын
Yes, Neoshos and Smallmouth have been hybridizing and it's becoming a big issue here as we're losing the pure strain that's so symbolic of the Ozark region. Not sure about Tennessee!

Here’s the issue. As a hunter of over 50 years, I’ve witnessed land consolidation among large corporate farms. One used to be able to get permission to hunt so long as you respected fence/gates and didn’t shoot the cows. Now… well now ‘farmers’ own thousands of acres (my neighbor farms 14,000 acres) thanks to government (taxpayer subsidies), and won’t allow ANYONE to hunt. Many state that they hunt all of it and even though there’s far more deer than they’ll ever harvest, they still say no. It’s their land and I respect that. I will not trespass. This poses challenges to the growing deer population. Times are changing. Land ownership has become unaffordable for most with a select few owning more and more. I don’t think those landowners should get paid for allowing walk in hunting either. Between CRP, price supports, insurance, USDA grants… we’ve already overpaid them to acquire all the land.
@toddschmutz-qx8wm2 ай бұрын
It’s not hunter decline!!! It’s conservation removing the deer because they think it’s CWD. So hunters are going elsewhere!
