I have recently found yours podcast and really have enjoyed it. This summer my Son and I gained access to a remote area of Crooked Creek just south of Harrison Arkansas. We have been wade fishing and kayak fishing with really good success. I'm going to try to attach a couple of pictures maybe you can tell me if a particular fish caught was in Neosho Bass. Thank you guys and keep up the good work. I will be sharing your podcast for sure. 3:26

We need that app or some kind of website that you can submit a fish on a measuring board to identify Neosho or SMB, I think the UofA received money for a grant a few years ago.

Loved this series. I do have a question. I fish a few non-boatable small rivers and creeks in Southern MO. They are not Neosho bass in them, I believe they are still just dolomieu. However, they tend to be more slender, not as dark, and smaller than northern smallmouths. They also will not enter lakes that the streams are attached to, but the lakes here are probably a lot warmer than up north. My question is, if there is not enough genetic variation to be a different species, should these smaller stream smallies still have an unofficial nickname?

So is the neosho a southern smallmouth or not a smallmouth at all?

@@livennick9 not a smallmouth at all. It is a different species entirely

@@theozarkpodcast ok. Thank you. I’ve caught several over the past 4 years over 16. Biggest was 18”. I always bring a measuring tape but hardly ever scales when I fish the creeks I fish. Some are on my channel. Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it.

I would assume they grow faster if there lifespan is that much shorter. Do they cross breed? And why do some smallmouth have no stripes??? I live in tn and i think what im catching are smallmouth, they live in the creeks and the Cumberland, i also catch spotties at the same holes and eddies

Yes, Neoshos and Smallmouth have been hybridizing and it's becoming a big issue here as we're losing the pure strain that's so symbolic of the Ozark region. Not sure about Tennessee!
