I have the same tile saw and mine works fantastic, you have to put water just a little so it can touch the blade 5mm or so and if necessary can add a little extra from time to time. Also you didn’t have to cut the guard, instead you have to tide the screw that holds it and you can move it up and down as you like. The diamond rim needs cooling, not the entire blade, there is where the friction happens

Some mod can be made to resolve the water issue. Try with hanging a water bottle upside down with a flexible hose attached, just about close to the blade on both sides (left/right) so that the water flows over the blade to cool it. It's easy to get the string around the tooth when it's sitting alone with no other teeth next to it I have one like that but I think I'll jiggle it a bit longer, the pain feels good.
