Hi. Nice tea box. I've been at the craft for 45 years. One comment and one suggestion. Comment: flush trim saws have no set to the teeth so they should not leave marks. That said, if you saw at even a slight angle, marks will be left. As for holding the saw correctly, you have to find what feels right for you. I like to saw from above (you sawed on the side in the video). I use my off hand to gently hold the blade flat as I saw. Suggestion: I make a lot of boxes. For evening out minor differences on the top and bottom of the box sides, I use sandpaper as you did. However I have adhesive backed sandpaper (80 grit) attached to a large piece of granite. The weight of the granite is sufficient to keep it from sliding on my workbench as I move the box back and forth. Another option is 3/4 inch MDF but that will likely need to clamped down. Be safe in the shop!

Great video. I started few weeks running CRF2 22W and your videos helps me a lot 👍. I wonder if I can engrave on mirrored SS (of course with original protecting foil on it).

Nice job gonna have to try this make some shorter tools for pen turning. I suspect a hollow chisel morticer would work for the bar stock to fit. 👍🏴

What is the best way to import your own design of a wooden part. Could you just take a picture of it and import it? or would you have to scan it, or draw it out in the software?

That was very enjoyable, besides being instructive. Very nice build. Also very professional narration. And your choice of music? Spot on. I’m a musician ( admittedly amateur) and I quake at some of the noise that some presenters choose to use on their channels, channels where I invariably never return. And yes. I subscribed to yours. You checked all the boxes!

Hey, what to say awesome video thank you. Me and the wife just got our Falcon 2 (its the wifes) for setup she has been experiencing some error 9 and GRBL errors. I am hoping after coping your setting in lightburn as well as using the step tool we "should" be able to dial in the issues. Thank you again for your information. Will update in the comments later.

The dimensions are the minimum. My 1st 3 boards were from that same kit. Now I make mine thicker, wider, and longer depending on my stock. I ensure my hole is 3/8 from top and my slot is 1/2" deep since the wire didn't have enough clearance. BTW, I also also had a left-hand board and had to glue in a dowel. 😅

When you heat/oxidise the surface of stainless steel you change the crystal structure which causes the SURFACE to reduce its expansion coefficient. That is why your material distorts with corners upwards. The more engraving you do to the surface the greater the distortion. 6mm thick plate would probably have enough stability to counteract this effect. You will also have noticed that the colours you carefully defined on your test swatch were non-evident on you final image. With such small test squares you were not simulating the reality of your image. The 0.1 line spacing and high scan speed allowed the heat to rapidly build up in the small test area due to the relatively low conduction coefficient of steel. When you did the final image, the scans were long and there was not the matching degree of heat build up betwenn scan lines, so all your settings were meaningless. This comment is not intened as criticism of your attempt at colour engraving because you have described the process in great detail and to perfection. As a wood working specialist, you will understand the vagaries of wood, (as unpredictable as the female species) whereas metals have predictable properties. Understand the two key propeties I mentioned and I am sure you will soon experiment your way to success. ps. The thicker the material to overcome distortion, the greater the conduction rate into the mass of the material and the more exposure time will be required to get the colour palette.
