Laser Enclosure & Shielding That's Safe to Use in a Closed Shop - AND a quick bonus project

One of the challenges with a laser engraver is the smoke! In today's video, I show you how I deal with that with a custom built laser enclosure built into a drawer. I also make a bonus project that you can make as a great Christmas gift.

Using pegs is a super good way to clamp down the work piece. if u have wood that bowed in the middle thats prblematic getting it flat, instead of placing many clips around the edges, i puzzled out an easier way (well easier when u need it, but takes some ahead of time prep). create a honeycomb pattern in the laser software (ie., honeycomb pattern that is accurate to the one u have on the laser) and lay it over the pattern u want to cut. then find honeycomb(s) that is near the center of the problem area of your board AND is located outside the cut (Ie.,, waste area). then locate that spot on the board and drill a hole the size of your clip ,then use a clip there (u will need low clearance head on it to avoid laser head collision)... cutting out a long strip of wood with a honeycomb pattern ahead of time helps to quickly locate that spot on the board. Make it long enough for the full width or height of your honeycomb sheet. (or u can go full sheet if ambitious, lol). Also looks super cool hanging on the wall.

IKR? i now envision a cabnet in the kitchen that actually has a 3D printer in it that slides out, Or a cutting board slide out that is actually a laser cutter that can slice and dice my onions for me (caramelizing them in the process). OR engrave a smiley face on my kid's sandwiches. Heck - could even slice my pizzas

What is the purpose of using the masking on the wood? Also is using the CA glue better than normal Titebond wood clue?

Thank you for watching Daniel! When I started using a laser engraver, I noticed some of the pieces would have a smoke stain on the edges. Masking the wood helps prevent that. Another reason if if you are going to paint or stain part of a piece, you can just remove the masking from the area you are going to color to prevent it from crossing over to where you don't want it. In this case, I didn't want to wait for wood glue to cure. Using CA glue allows you to move onto gluing the next layer quickly. Take care! - Ed
