People right now complain about mundane problems. People like Makeba & other black, brown, and other ethnic people who were alive before the 70s, experienced REAL struggles. I feel so blessed for those who fought against apartheid, communism, socialism directly.

When I was a young child Pata Pata was very popular in my neighborhood and home especially. We learned of Mariam Makeba's struggles with apartheid from ebony and jet magazines including her marriage to Stokely Carmichael. A blessed memory!!! er marriage to Stokely Carmichael.

Almost every non-white individual on earth has a valid reason to despise and hate the white race; broadly speaking there is no group as despicable.

I heard the adults talking about her when I was little in the 70s. I loved her Pata Pata song and never knew she was singing it. I heard her name, but I didn't know who she was or what she did. I just found out today that she was South African, Xosa. I know I spelled it wrong, but I don't know the correct spelling. I had no idea of her place in the struggle to end apartheid. I only learned of Apartheid a few years before it ended.

The South Africa that Miriam Makeba presented on the world stage when i watched her in February 1977 during FESTAC in Lagos is totally different from the South Africa that has emerged today.

What an amazing, wonderful, courageous woman. Such a beautiful, powerful voice. The apartheid system in South Africa was outrageous -- unforgivable, just so egregious. Humans are so inhumane, sometimes. ~ In a world where you can be anything, be kind ~ Miriam embodied goodness and kindness. And, that voice! ❤
