I was born in 1958. I missed her entirely, and that is what a segregated society costs its citizens. I just found the Click Song today. This is amazing.

I was blessed to have met Ms. Makeba “Mama” in Flint Michigan 1994. My Wife and I were allowed to spend time with she, her friends & family and Hugh Masekela. My life was richly blessed by this experience.

What an amazing, wonderful, courageous woman. Such a beautiful, powerful voice. The apartheid system in South Africa was outrageous -- unforgivable, just so egregious. Humans are so inhumane, sometimes. ~ In a world where you can be anything, be kind ~ Miriam embodied goodness and kindness. And, that voice! ❤

When I was a young child Pata Pata was very popular in my neighborhood and home especially. We learned of Mariam Makeba's struggles with apartheid from ebony and jet magazines including her marriage to Stokely Carmichael. A blessed memory!!! er marriage to Stokely Carmichael.

I have just come back from the cinema where there is now Miriam Makeba - Mama Africa, the documentary showing. I learnt so much about this phenomenal woman. The movie is a journey of powerful and joyous music that explores the plight of her people. As a black artist freely traveling the world and singing my songs in freedom I feel uterly humbled and proud of this African woman who paved the way for me and fellow artists world wide!

Miriam Makeba (4 March 1932 - 9 November 2008), nicknamed Mama Africa, was a Grammy Award-winning South African singer and civil rights activist. In the 1960s she was the first artist from Africa to popularize African music around the world. She is best known for the song "Pata Pata", first recorded in 1957 and released in the U.S. in 1967. On 4 March 2013, Google honored her with a Google Doodle on their homepage.

Hey! Super awesome of you french to now come and commend people who were oppressed. malheureusement, c'est une blague! Still trying to deal with the shhhht that EU caused on the the world. Speaking from a different world not far from yours (in terms of astronomical distances) but vastly different. I am a R-cist and I should have the right to be because I am skilled but poor. Learned but poor. Mature but poor. and honestly, it is only because my ancestors were gullible and humble fellows.
