When describing arguing before the Court many years later, Justice Scalia said that he only got one question from Justice White. He must have remembered incorrectly because it is clear from this audio that he actually got questions from Justices Marshall, Brennan and Powell. In the interview I am referencing, he was making the point that in earlier days the justices didn't ask as many questions. As we all know, the court became much more active after Justice Scalia set the tone of asking many rapid fire questions to counsel. But he did get more questions than that later interview would suggest (and apparently none from Justice White which surprised me).

Slightly odd to hear Brown talking about being influenced by religion; he tended to play that down in later years whereas Blair became increasingly religious as time passed.
@chrispalmer78932 ай бұрын
What's interesting watching this is that we now know that both Brown and Blair were already frustrated that John Smith wasn't enough of a moderniser. They were both worried that the Labour Party needed to change to be truly electable and that Smith thought that he could win by playing it safe. In retrospect, both sides were sort of right. There was a lot more that could and should have been done to modernise Labour, but the truth is that the Tories were in such a state that Smith's strategy would almost certainly have worked.

These two were unstoppable in their time. A charismatic, articulate frontman with a highly analytical, intelligent and humble man side by side. Blair doesn’t get the credit for things he achieved in government and Brown equally so for saving the entire world from financial collapse. Things can only get better - well they did with these two gentlemen at the helm.

The "firearms in common use" language was a gift to the NRA. AR15s are in common use and those weapons have no relationship to self defense. The Supreme Court plucked this "common use" language out of the ether for political purposes. No federal gun case ever used this language before. People, including children have been murdered because of this case.

What a load of nonsense.
@MMGJ103 ай бұрын
The Miller ruling stated that there was no evidence provided that the sawed off shotgun would aid in the efficiency of a miltia, so it wasn't protected. Which is nonsense, but we'll go with that. An AR-15 absolutely would, so why wouldn't that be protected? A full auto rifle would too.. 92-95% of all gun related deaths involve handguns. Your fear of "AR-15's" is fed by propagandists that want to disarm the people of any meaningful, decent rifles.. because they are protecting THEMSELVES not us.
@frankhoffman35663 ай бұрын
Whether or not the "common use" language was ever before used in a SCOTUS gun case is easily researched. Whether or not a single gunshot will scare off a home invader is a bit more difficult to confirm, but definitely possible. Whether or not children were ever massacred by a semiautomatic firearm is also easily proven.

@@frankhoffman3566Whether or not the Government has any granted power over our rights in that manner, is easily researched too.. The answer is no.

@@frankhoffman3566Semi automatic means nothing. It's nearly an ancient method of firing bullets. At the very least, the People absolutely must have this right. Don't like it? Try to amend the Constitution, or leave.
