Unfortunately Hadlow railway station has been completely ruined with unisex toilets in the waiting room and platform covered with tables and chairs people buying coffee, hamburger store on wheels even inside the ticket office has been ruined with LED television droning on and on about the station even the station masters display pocket watch was stolen and replaced with a cheapo , the reproduction signal box has not been spared with glass smashed so many times it was replaced with plastic glass . Even the telephone box outside was smashed inside and was replaced with a reproduction phone, with the box being permanently locked. People also walking around what little area that is left of the platform like headless chickens trying to avoid all the tables and chairs in short .....it is bloody awful

Call me old-fashioned, call me whatever you want. But I preferred the characterful old engines when the line was Heavy Rail, way ahead of the characterless whining metrolink trams, with their mint-green dodgy decor and unmanned soulless stations.

At 8:44 in this film is a US Navy Radioman 1st class, that is my father. He was assigned to HMS KGV as a radio operator for communications liaison with US Navy. That was another Adm King requirement that the BPF used US Navy communications protocol while serving with the US Navy. If anyone has any more information about this I would like to find out about it.

The shot at 49:39 of the NZR "Dg diesel locomotives" is taken at the Dunedin Railway Station, not Christchurch, The Steam locomotive at 49:51 is the NZR "Bb class" not the NZR "C class". And Frankton Yard Junction (1884-1975) is somewhere around Hamilton, far from Auckland. Know very parts of the railways and locations of my home New Zealand.

I started on the railway 1980 at Guide Bridge as a second man or the proper title Driver's assistant. Did a lot on wood head line going to Tinsley plus wath with the Bo Bo class 76 had to walk along frame to put up a red disc over a white light for a tail light if going back light engine.

Alan is it possible to ask permission to use the some of your footage? I'm doing a video detailing the Railway in Central Queensland from a Railwayman's perspective. I would credit it to yourself and I do not profit in any way from videos on my channel they are purely for education and entertainment purposes. Sincerely Adrian

What, just this volume and not the whole series? I find that highly unlikely. Besides, I've already looked into it, and the copyright still belongs to Arts Magic, therefore your claim is null and void.

Truly wonderful, thank you ! The 9F is part of my life, on the S&DJR. As BR tried to get rid of steam the last thing they needed was the 9Fs, iron ore, coal, or the Mendip Hills, took it all in it's stride. Thank you again..

It's great hearing the dialogue and the conversations! It seems like they're remodelling because of the upcoming electrification but also clearing away some of the track used by the Tyneside Loop services such as the two tracks being lifted at Manors and also in the Heaton area. Notice the remains of the former Heaton station - the track was cleared and I don't think it's noticeable anymore.

What had the poor personnel done to get KB Lager? A horrible sweetish beer that we used to call "Kids' Beer"! In all seriousness a n nice bit of pleasure for the crews. Named after the Kent Brewery, on Broadway, in Central Sydney - closed in 1985. Thanks for a great series. No doubt my father would have been amongst the crowds to see the BPF arrive in Sydney Harbour in 1945.

I used this line for a meeting at Birmingham University iin 1989 and this is how I remember it with the DMUs. Also Birmingham New St must have been the most depressing and ugly railway station I've ever visited. Far better now as New St has been rebuilt.

The target of the Ceylon raid in April 1942 was the British Eastern Fleet. Once the Eastern Fleet transferred its main base to Kilindini, Kenya, the Japanese showed no interest in the under-defended Ceylon at all.

excellent-surprising to see an oelerkin on the Ramillies-the anti aircraft armament on the r class battleships was pathetic-the japanese through away a priceless chance to dominate the indian ocean in april42 with inadequate reconnaissance off ceylon and the horn of india. Sommerville knew the kutai butai would have decimated the british indian ocean fleet and wisely choose to avoid battle

The GWR logo can still be seen on the Wirral. near the docks on that side. Of course LMS on the other side of the Mersey, and the fabulous Lime Street Station, from where the Red Rose express to London Euston via Crewe. Four lines out of Lime Street nr 1 line - Edge Hill, thru Mossley Hill and onto West Allerton, an Art Deco building, on which Hornby Dublo modelled their station. On past the Edge Hill engine sheds - plenty of steam locos in 1961/ 62. Onto Ditton Junction where I think 4lines became 2. Onto Crewe where track reconfiguration was taking place and electrification changing things. Onto Tring Cutting and eventually .Euston where history was being levelled.
