The 'freight line' [at Tursdale Jcn] continuing ahead to Newcastle was the original line from York to the Tyne [Leamside line].

If travelling through Durham, look east from the viaduct - it's a 'world heritage' view of castle and cathedral. When I see it, I'm home . . .

Seeing lots of guys working on the opposite line doing engineering works despite the line still being open and trains passing as normal. Very risky but was 33 years ago.

A lot of those footbridges still remain, on the line to Hexham and Carlisle.

I would love to have just listened to the train driver and camera crew talking, some fascinating insights into the history of York. Especially now, as the area around the station is due for another massive change.

0:15 a lot of that has changed it’s now the electric trains that have now taken over the east coast mainline

What 'alternative' route comes in from Stockton? Might have seen diversions from Northallerton via Eaglescliffe, but how many?

The old S&D would have 'come in' from the west, as the [heavy] traffic of coal was from the Shildon area to Newport in the east . . .
