Nice run. Has anyone ever tried mechanical lubricators or injectors on 7/8 steam? They are used sometimes on 3.5" gauge
@SteamDriven18 күн бұрын
I have built a 3.5" gauge also and used the smallest available injector... my guess is that if you tried fitting one to a 7/8ths scale then it would instantly "kill" the boiler pressure given the small volume of these boilers and then knock itself off. As for mechanical lubricators, technically it can be done but my guess, again, is that it would deliver way way way too much oil. These locos only need the smallest (minuscule) amount of oil.

Is the slo mo coal wagon a custom build?
@SteamDriven2 ай бұрын
Yes, simple construction from scrap bits of wood and a spare wheel set.
@unclecke2992 ай бұрын
Cool! Is the slow motion achieved with special gearing, weight, or both?
@SteamDriven2 ай бұрын
It has a gear and flywheel unit inside. They were sold to fit Roundhouse locos but this has been mounted in the wagon so that it can be pulled by any loco. Previously I used weights approx 1kg and that worked also. These are small but powerful locos.

Depending on where you live (country) there are many places where you can purchase on line. I am in Australia but also purchase items from the UK and sometimes the USA. Just search "Model Engineering Supplies" and you will find a bunch of suppliers.

Hi John, can you tell me where you got the kadt two tub wagons in this video clip from? Regards John
@SteamDriven10 ай бұрын
They are LGB "Dump Wagons". Might not be the exact name, not sure they are in production now. It's a few years since I got mine and even then I had to hunt around. I changed the wheels to standard metal and made couplers out of wood to suit the rest of my rolling stock. The weathering is purely random hits with rattle cans... yellow, rust red, brown etc. They are actually full of real gravel to give some weight for slow running.

Great video John and that's the "winning lap" around my old layout for the slowest continuous run ever ! No one has ever come close to that 4 minutes and 40 seconds slow run, most guests trains do an express run of around 60 to 40 seconds or even less.

@SteamDriven2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I built the loco albeit the cylinders and motion are from Roundhouse Engineering in the UK. Wagons are scratch built from various bits... this is quite usual in 7/8ths scale but if you want kits look at Model Earth Designs in the UK. Also, if not already done, follow the 7/8ths group on Facebook.
