They changed some stuff in Tsukasa's backstory and added more of the stuff with Meiko which was nice, but it toned down a lot of the stuff about how Tsukasa REALLY helped the Kago's weather some REALLY bad times after Meiko's passing(Yoh having mental and emotional breakdowns and Kago's business nearly going under). It also made the scene in the sushi bar and the drive more melodramatic than the more comedic vibe in the manga as well as not going into the reason why Tsukasa moved out or Kago being more goofy and bumbling dad. Basically, Tsukasa cannot fathom that what he perceives as "minor work" is worth what they give him(Kago once paid 2yrs worth of med insurance for Tsukasa which on the low end is like $1.5k) making him super uncomfortable. Episode was great, but I'd have done in differently to fit both the drama and comedy in equally good balance. Also, the old man was secretly paying for Inori's time and was the one who taught her how to skate.

I'm definitely gonna read the manga when the anime is over so I can pick up on the changes!

@lookingnerdy It's been very 1 to 1 so far with only a few minor changes. This is the first near entirely original since it's a lot of stuff from the fanbook(highly recommend it and it's on Bookwalker) with a lot of stuff about Meiko. Super glad about picking it up as well. 😊

Thanks for doing these reactions! I always look forward to seeing your reactions and perspective as a former professional ice skater on this show every week. Since you were wondering what's in the rank 1 test @ 7:45, I figured it might be worth to add some translations that were missing from episode 2 3:11 - 3:23 where they introduced the various badge ranks. This isn't as in-depth as you'd probably want it, but hopefully it can give some insight on what's expected from people who own these badges in Japan and maybe you can relate them to the US system. If not, could you give a quick breakdown on what's (roughly) expected from you with the US badges? Also, how far did you get (in case just like the JP version it's not expected everyone gets the highest badge)? Prelim <= She took this test and passed it in episode 2 Rank 1 - Single spin <= she mentioned having applied for this test in this episode Rank 2 - Dance in a program Rank 3 - Double spin Rank 4 - Dance in an extensive program Rank 5 - Top level for elementary schoolers, qualification for entering Novice 8 competitions Rank 6 - Top level for middle schoolers, qualification for entering Junior competitions Rank 7 - Qualification for entering national and international competitions (Has a lower pass rate than the (JP law equivalent of the) bar exam) Rank 8 - Artisan level - Since having this rank doesn't influence scoring, it's rare for people to try for this rank I also want to encourage pausing more often if you want to react to anything. I think most people will agree it's difficult to both talk and pay attention to the episode at the same time, yet I hear a lot of reactors feeling bad for pausing too often. Especially when reactors have in-depth knowledge about the show's subject matter, I definitely prefer a reactor pause more, so that they can pick up as much as possible from the episode. For instance, I would've loved to see a more in-depth analysis of Inori's program on episode 3 @ 20:58 (what are we looking at exactly and how appropriate would a program like that be for a prelim competition in the US?) I can't end this comment without saying that I think it's very admirable that you're learning Japanese and it's amazing how far you've come! It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and add a Japanese intro, so I definitely want to add some recognition on how great it is that you do it. Keep it up! As a small tip: when mentioning the episode number, instead of saying 「エピーソード6」, try going for 「6話」("roku wa" / episode 6) or 「第6話」("dai roku wa" / episode number 6) instead. Japanese people understand you the way you're saying it, but I think it helps people more to not just get praise, but also get tips like these to refine your Japanese a little bit where you can. Finally, if you're interested in watching another figure skating anime (that isn't Yuri on Ice xD), you might want to take a look at Ginban Kaleidoscope. It's mostly wholesome story about a high level women's figure skater who gets possessed by a male stunt plane pilot's ghost. It's from quite a while ago (2005), so it won't be as pretty as the other two shows, but I figured it might pique your interest. If you read all of this, thanks a lot! And big thanks in advance if you're willing to answer some of the questions mentioned in this comment!
