it is valuable to understand this while young enough to practice it for when we are old enough to need it.

Yes @davidwayne, at the end of the day, you go with what you have in hand. That said, there is a Cane preference for SV and it's what he outlines. Thank you for commenting Sir!

I'm enjoying SV, but your sound quality is muddy. For both this and ACSD, please use a lapel mike. The sound quality inside (where there is an echo) or outside (with wind and road noise) is poor when you use the camera mike. More sound clarity, please. Especially for those of us who are older and whose hearing is not sharp or discriminating as it used to be.

In the UK having anything in you possession that could be used as a self defence weapon such as a Pocket knife (even with the permitted 3 inch blade) even a sharp pencil when questioned by the Police 'do you consider this a weapon?' and you admit to carrying it for self defence you are in trouble. A knife is a 'tool' a pencil is to write with but I have wondered if a 'Medical Aid' with knurled grips and machined edges (Cane Masters) and a nasty pointy end to the crook might be stretching things a bit far. A tightly rolled up Newspaper can be used as a thrusting weapon. When I thought I was being followed at night in a foreign country I picked a newspaper out of a bin and rolled it up. Again for thrusting at vital parts not for smacking someone over the head with! Luckily I did not have to use it, couldn't read it either as it was printed in Arabic.

Thank you for commenting @mikeharris! We prefer the cane which is a medical device - just go minus the "nasty" and "pointy" -plain jane shaft, horn & crook- at the end of the day TRAINING remains the real equalizer regardless of tool in hand - May want to reference Sobrevivencia (SV) The Cuban Cane Art of Survival which de-emphasizes elaborate cane designs with a preference for tools that fly under the radar- You'll find materail on KZbin referencing the topic. Hope it helps, thank you for following and Stay Safe!

I have several years of training in stick/sword arts and an Aikido derivative style. I find SV quite intriguing, ACSD less so. Is it possible to study the former without the latter as a prerequisite? Thanks!

I love this-- TenShin Aikido is ONE of my 5 black belt arts.. 4th degree and higher in each one... and I've notieced a LOT of them just from the casual videos on here. I'm working on an income ot supplement my SS which isn't enough to cover monthly expenses and when I get one going- I'll sign up. Is it paid MONTHLY, quarterly or is yearly required?

I think focusing on multiple attackers is historically meaningful, but don’t forget most of us will be facing a single opponent and the footwork for parry/suppress/ escape is the one most encountered and perhaps more important
@AmericanCaneSelfDefense

Although SV's footwork and movements were designed to deal with multiple assailants, SV's Pivoting/Blending is also used to deal with a singular attacks that may be overpowering or in stances where the environment does not allow for entering and diagonal movements. If you're an SV annual member, you can find it under the SV Footwork Template module, it will also be covered in detail in next week's SV Footwork Masterclass- Thank you for commenting and following Paul!

Thank you for commenting @wakeizland! - YES, footwork we say gets you in/out of trouble- SV offers an 8 Footwork template which can be practiced solo and w/partner- Every response in SV can be traced to the 8 foundational movements and from them come variations. - If you watch other SV vids on KZbin you'll find the emphasis on managing distance. If you like SV, you may join our free FB community here: facebook.com/share/g/5vxQAQAKmpgJm6cR/ - There's also a paid annual membership covering detailed content (including the 8 Footwork Template) and training beyond what we offer on YT- (Instructional vids are different)-Questions? we're here for you 800-289-8188- Thank you for following!
