That's a good way to get shot. What if a hunter stumble upon you hiding behind a decoy..pow. not good.

I swear to God turkeys can read a fricking sign..if it says no trespassing. They'll be stending in the field behind the sign.

If you harvest a public land turkey in California you should earn a medal. Tuffest place on earth to bag a bird. Most birds are.located on private property.

Im sharing this because it is very affordable & wildly effective. When fishing rock cod I make my own double dropper loop rig with the pink seaguar 60 lb fluoro 6 ft long & a torpedo of whatever weight is needed. Tried something new last 2 trips out of Bodega. Both deep drop trips. When Im forming the dropper loops I feed the tag end through the hook eye of a tsunami holographic black back 6" paddle tail sand eel. I know I know these are surfcasting striper lures, but just try them (the weighted ones) they have a stout enough hook that they will hold a decent ling & they are crazy affordable. A 4 pk is like $5.00. So my rigs cost me $2.50 plus line. I often use mono down deep where it really makes no difference. So I found that even without scent(garlic bloody tuna) & without squid strips these things get smashed before even hitting bottom - lotsa doubles both trips. They ladted all day, rinsed off & ready for next trip although change out of line if beat up by teeth/rocks. I bought 4 pks 2 of the black back & 2 of the green back. I put a black back on the upper & a green back on the lower. 1st trip I was adding squid head & scent 2nd trip I tried them alone & no difference. For comparison those crappy little white fly rigs are more than 5.00 ea & minimally effective camparatively. Also when after sand dabs use another score I tried Ocean Cat glow shrimp with 1/0 hks because the larger hks weed out small dabs which at 300 ft are a hassle. The 1/0 handles petrale sole which you will always find near dabs. Squid strip (sm) on each shrimp & a sm squirt of bloody garlic tuna. These are only 1.20 per 5 shrimp rig so I bought 10. I usually limit 1st honestly. I think those small 6" eel paddle tails trigger bites because the current is surprisingly strong down at the bottom so these things are moving very fast with no jigging. Keep the dropper loop quite sm so you get instant feedback with bites. Planned to try a 12" chinese version of rubber eel (single 2 hk version that I rig myself ) this Dec (24) but 5 trips got rain cancelled in a row. Shit! Next Spring... & my last tip. I do something with my dabs that makes a huge difference in hook setting on lings. I tie a dropper loop very tight to the weight like less than 12". I tie a 6 turn T knot then cut 1 side of the loop for a short branch line less than5" once tied. I snell a lg stout hk & hook live dabs through mouth fwd of nostrils top & bottom lips & no treble you dont need it. We were up to 2 lb weights due to current at 300 ft. I am able to freefall those set ups without tangles since branch is so short & that tight to bottom makes a huge difference from say 1 1/2-2 ft above the weight. Try these save money catch more. Won the pot last trip - 4 keeper lings. 1 big fatty.

One other thing I’d like to say ,Being 66 ,I grew up with lead shot,early in alternative shot tyme was terrible,But now because of competition with shot shell manufacture people and the chokes,that I will pattern it’s changed,Over the years I’ve seen enough head ,broken wing,and body shot ducks to know how they react. Although your shooting was superior than any I’ve seen online ,You may have edited a few misses but Your shooting was as good as it gets,I’ve heard about those chokes and I will pattern some next year to see ,I’ve heard pros and cons but in waterfowling always keep an open mind,You guys do it well !
@AbandonOutdoors21 күн бұрын
They are tight chokes which I really like because if you miss you miss and if you hit them they die, also what helped us for the high percentage hit rate was that these birds were all pretty dang close. Camera can be deceiving sometimes on distance but I doubt there were many shots over 40 yards.

@@AbandonOutdoors under forty that’s when most people choke,I’ve seen a lot of people shoot right by a duck because of leading a bird,When I see all of this,This Eastern shore ,Maryland hunter wishes he could live forever !

Really awesome video! Great footage and good story telling! Those ducks really seemed keyed into that creek, any idea why?
@AbandonOutdoors22 күн бұрын
Thank you, really appreciate that. They honestly were keyed in on the creek when the temperatures were really cold because the surrounding lakes had completely frozen over. The rest of the time it was pretty much just traffic, but we were under a lot of birds so it really helped!

I've been hunting these suckers since 1986 and can fairly say I've not experienced 10 hunts like that the whole time. Wow! Question for you other duck hunters. Just got a sbe3 What ammo are you guys having good luck with patterning ? I bought some black clouds 3inch. 3shot with a mid range Carlsons choke and they are awful 😂

You know I have a patternmaster in mine and I’m a firm believer in it. I always shoot 3” 2s pretty much the cheapest ammo I can find unless they’re Winchester xperts, I do not like those shells at all.
