My opinion is different, I think Michael got off easy ... out of all the idiotic things he does & says, "fake" firing someone is right up there among the stupidest. (Remember he did it to Pam too and got away with it) If he's wondering why Stanley doesn't like him, he should've had that mature convo without that stupid stunt.

Michael tries his best keeps blurring the lines between professionalism and a laid back sort of environment. Yes, he has crossed the lines way too many times and he has made up for it! He is the kind of boss who wants to be your friend and make your job easier. What Stanley did was unprofessional. Michael tried to brush it off, but then Stanley crossed it and Michael then had to pull up the "professional only" card. That's the worst thing if it happens to you irl. I have been in the receiving end of it and it's not good for your career. Feel sorry for Michael, through and through.
