Nice idea if you can get one. It can take up to 3 months to even get one from the factory. Not worth the hassle.

Leisure Furls are custom built to your boat, so it’s worth the wait! In addition to working with your exact boat specifications, we have a naval architect review every boat/boom combination to make sure we have the right design for you. As with all furling booms, you will need a new sail, which often has a similar lead time. If you did not get a prompt response to your inquiries, please contact Forespar’s LeisureFurl Sales directly at [email protected] and we will gladly help. Lead time at present is about 60 days from deposit.

wait, that, by itself is NOT safe, it is too easy to do a Chinese gybe, with the sails like that, you NEED a boom brake, boom preventer, or the like, to safety the boom, so if you go too far downwind the boom is in control, and won't swing over unexpectedly, possibly causing injury.

I remember as a kid we had a pole specifically built for dip-pole jibing; controlled by two guys inside the pole to pull it from one clew to the other -- but it required another crewmember dropping the topping lift as the dip-pole guys were being pulled in/let out. Efficient; jibes would take barely 5 seconds to perform, but asking one foredeck crew to operate both topping lift and guys simultaneously was a bit much.
@bradgwatts Жыл бұрын
Could you please explain which topping lift sheet you are using. Bit confused as mainsail topping lift will already be in use..
@forespar Жыл бұрын
Hello, The mainsail topping lift should not be used. That’s not positioned correctly for use on the foredeck. A right way is that you may need to rig one for the pole if you don't already have one. That said, in some cases you could use a second jib halyard if you have one. You could also use a spinnaker halyard, but that should not be a long term answer as there would be chafing issues. We also have a video up that may answer more questions kzbin.info/www/bejne/mavSmmlpjcuKirM. As well as a whisker pole guide here: www.forespar.com/pdf/techTips/Whisker-Pole-Buyers-Guide-Tech-Tip.pdf

At 0:32 you state that Marelon is a carbon fiber & glass reinforced product. If this is true, then the carbon would cause galvanic corrosion of other things around it, even stainless steel. Are you certain this is carbon? With a name like Marelon, I would have expected it to be glass filled Nylon.
@mpj2000011 ай бұрын
Actually not. It is been proven time and again that carbon fiber encapsulated in a polymer can not cause a galvanic reaction.

What about when racing, when certainly not going to roller-furl? It is barely possible (on my 10 m boat) to extend the pole against the wind when already rigged. Also, I have seen some reference to an "after-guy".

I’m thinking about getting one of these for a new boat, but this video makes me think one can’t reef while going downwind, since they named it reefing downwind, but is instead reefing while close hauled down to a reach. Does not instill confidence.

Look at the Schaefer system, it can and you don't have to wait three month to get one.
