These roofers are like vultures the day after a hail storm. They don't do that because they want minimum thickness of shingles so they can knock on your door again next time it hails and try to replace your roof again.

This is so disingenuous it's laughable. Try actually nailing the new shingles in place and adding some sealant if needed and stop telling egregious lies to customers.

I see only one type of product on the Gutter Helmet website and it doesn't have any holes. Is this a variety you have to be a dealer/installer to see? Or is it some other brand?

Some don't make a big deal, take five minutes and put mastic under to stick. Some like this one will use it to sell a KZbin video and dramatize what is a nothing burger

I see a roofer up selling a customer! 10 bucks for a tube of asphalt roofing tar, FFS just needs a dab of glue to stick shingles! Looks like another 20 years in that roof to me

Sooo what were they supposed to do? Nail down the loose shingles or something? Use some kind of glue? I know nothing about roofing. Just passing through
@MarkH1014 күн бұрын
Retar up under where he is lifting, so that tar will hold the shingle down. It's the difference between a pro job and a 'don't car' job.

I was doing some renovation work to my dad's house awhile back. Old brick house built 1939, with a 6/12 pitch roof. Always had plaster water damage on living room wall over the fireplace. So while me and some friends reshingled the house, with replacing a lot of damaged wood here and there, I mentioned to my buddy that had much more roofing experience than I did at that time, that we should install a small cricket behind the chimney. It all was good for a short time. The problem was that we built the cricket on top of new roof felt paper, where we should of had cricket felt paper run under main roof felt paper. So eventually water found it's way probably through bad nailing positions close to cricket and water traveled under the cricket to the corner of the chimney. So I didn't have time to fix the problem 100% as I would have liked to, but I cut into the seam at main roof meeting cricket and installed a piece of aluminum L angle to steer running water from main roof away from cricket. I also did plenty of caulking at this intersection to. Note, this is not the correct method that I did, but it bought me some time until I can repair it myself right. I don't want to pay someone 500 to 1000 dollars to rework this area only to still leak. Very important that the felt paper is installed correctly and shingle the cricket first then roof shingles over cricket with proper flashing. Nailing is very important, and keep track of you shingles butting each other, and a shingle below a butt joint with one or two nails in the butt joint path, a water passage way. One nail too close to a shingle butt joint on either same shingle row or below butt joint will cause a leak eventually. I only learned all of this from roofing experts that have posted helpful videos as this one, Thanks for posting this video.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and insights! It sounds like you've learned a lot from tackling that chimney issue, and your attention to detail with the felt paper and nailing is spot on. I'm glad the video could help, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your story. Best of luck when you’re ready to make the full repair-sounds like you're well on your way!

Amatuerish. You should have used the old counter flashing. It was better than the 1/2 ass job you did. If you replace counter flashing rake out actual reglets, curl back and wedge into reglet with a lead roll. Then tuck point with morter, not caul for heaven sake. Get training.

Mod bit is the cheapest, least effective roof system out there. Not a fan tbh. Single ply systems are better. It is no wonder we replace these so often. No one ever installs them properly. Job security thanks guys.

Is insulation necessary if there is a gap- inch or two deep between the drywall and skylight. Unlike this where I can see a pice of wood almost flush up to the drywall. Or is just the PVC trim itself OK.

Bro why are you saying chiminey
@ElvargsBane4 ай бұрын
Would it be beneficial to slant the reglet cut so it is also sloped? I feel if it is flat some water can also find its way behind it, although obviously less than the example you showed at first.
@magikarpusedsplash88814 ай бұрын
that was my first thought, but to get enough of an angle that it would affect performance you would probably risk chipping the brick. Even if chipping isn't an issue, It's sloped on two sides and has sealant, and the reflect gives the sealant several times more surface area to actually hold everything together.

Couldn’t you just inject a filler and then cover it with a seal to prevent a redoing it all though? Or is it that just not possible?
@worm820754 ай бұрын
It is true that it will stop MOST of the water but not all of it. Riglet or not the sealant is still going to age out and need to be replaced 2-3 times during the life of the roof.
