Thanks for sharing this time capsule. I never understood why BL didn't sell THIS car in the USA. I am absolutely positive it would have been a success. I guess they thought it was too small. I am sure it was not. Wouldn't have minded owning one back then, or now for that matter. I think it would have given the escort a run, and GM would have sent it's metro back where it came from and belonged. That car was ugly junk. I wonder if an alternate reality where it was sold in the USA if BL would be around today....an interesting thought

Thanks to Sadiq Kahn even the Police couldn't do this run in about 4 hours now. That man has ruined the city

Love the 80s knickerless blonde bimbo at 23:42 😜😜We had great advertising with acres of exposed young female flesh, look at 70s British motorcycle adverts too, equally as awful, but unfortunately we had the complete opposite with the abysmally built BL cars, as they used to expose acres of engine internals along the highways with amazing regularity. 😁😁 BL was shite

It astounds me how consistently the British motoring press raved about a new British car, only to absolutely trash it mercilessly just a few years later. The R8 Rover 200 was seen at launch as a massive achievement and an excellent car. But here, Quentin trashes it. Here, Quentin raves about the looks, handling, quality, spaciousness, and performance of the new 200. But seemingly in an instant, the car became an object of ridicule. It’s a strange phenomenon.

Not particularly big... really? The 800 was massive!

Always loved its curvaceous design, but it was bizarre to introduce a car that was between two segments of the market -- too big and expensive to be a supermini, too small to be a family hatch. The head gasket problem was of course a significant issue that damaged the marque's reputation, but no worse in reality than the myriad of problems afflicting modern engines - e.g. Ford's Ecoboost, Jaguar's Ingenium diesel, Peugeot's PureTech, etc.

I'm gonna say they wouldn't make it these days - although they'd probably just use a chopper

Actual death traps! The whole car was a crumple zone. Listening to the designers is terrifying haha “err it needs to be a bit rounder here” FML Hahaha

Very skillful operation (driving) And a great icon of a car. I imagine it's the 3800 rover SD1 a mighty car that would easily outrun any german car

Real coppers with a real police force, with no political narrative. I very much doubt the police being given permission to do a similar run today, which is sad. Good old London too, before these dreadful road calming measures which makes traffic flow worse. Time machine anyone?

I'd like to know the full background of the recipient. A lot of effort for someone who already had one rejection. Narrated by a convicted drink driver. Good to watch though.

Today the electric car would run out of charge whilst the risk assessment was being conducted. Then the diversity committee would have to consult the minister for funny walks.

Why wasnt the liver flown to Heathrow? its much closer to the hospital and theres the M4 most of the way to the hospital
@Dan-j3kАй бұрын
Anyone else have visions of this liver being thrown about inside the picnic box, like a bouncing ball?! I think detective Gene Hunt was driving the SD1 smoking a cigarette! 😂
@RalphColmarАй бұрын
The liver would have been securely packed in ice to keep it in the best condition possible, so no chance of it bouncing around inside an empty box.

I wondered why the rover v8 wasn’t acceleration as quick as it’s capable.Then it became obvious why at the end.Even with 190 BHP the weight in the two front seats would of given it a power to weight ratio of a 1970s milk float.
