Steve, Brilliant. I loved the story. I have been known to kill off fictional characters, so I really liked your crafting of the story. Well done. And, of course, it was loaded with lots of words and expressions in context.

@@SoundBritish I had the same concern when I published a video which killed off Aunt Irene in the first minute. People liked it. I bet that this story will be popular. I don't thank that it will be off putting.

Hi Steve, I am back again from the weekend watching your conversation with your friend that's amazing try to be slower when you post another new video's so that I can understand thanks.
@SoundBritish3 күн бұрын
Well done Hillary. In the videos everyone is speaking a little slower than normal speed and it's important to your development that your ears get trained to understand at this speed. KZbin has a video speed adjustment you can use to make it slower but it will definitely improve your English listening skills to go through at the normal speed and if you don't understand it all go back and listen again. It wont take long until you are asking me to speak faster 😂All the best - Steve

Just keep pushing yourself to learn by listening to faster speech. I promise suddenly you will find it easy.

Thank you ever so much I'm just wandering what the exact meaning of /I turned in for the night/is? for it is my first time to hear it .

Hi Amera, If you say “I am turning in for the night” it simply means you are going to bed to sleep - Steve

@SoundBritish I have another question if you don't mind Someone asked me if my niece sends photos of her baby daughter to me. and I wanted to answer them that she always sends photos and directly as soon as she takes them . Is there one word I may use instead of those ? Should I say /first and foremost/ or/firsthand /or /directly /or what ?
@SoundBritish4 күн бұрын
The easiest and most natural way to answer would be “She sends me the photos as soon as she takes them” or “She sends them straight to me as soon as she takes them” . You could use ‘directly’ but to sound like a native keep it simple - Steve

Hi Steve Thanks a lot for your lesson!! The other day, I went to a secondhand shop to buy a piece of furniture for my guest room. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it because the shop owner said they only accepteddosh/ cash. I had to dip into my rainy day fund to buy three tickets to Korea, which I had been saving for ages.
@SoundBritish6 күн бұрын
Always good to hear from you Soph, in your first example 'dosh' is a term for money in general and therefore you could pay what was owed by card . Something like ' I couldn't buy the furnature because I didn't have enough dosh on me" would be fine. For the second example to be correct you would need another 'for' in their ie ' ... which I had been saving for for ages' To sound more natural you could just say '...which I had been saving ages for' but the use of rainy day fund was perfect - Steve
