Absolutely BRILLIANT novel series! My son was so absorbed with this amazing series, that I had to ask an ex-boyfriend to mail me one of the books from the UK because it had yet to be released in the US. Another reason to end every relationship on good terms! 😂❤

I really don't know why you have so less likes, views and comments, because it is so inspiring to hear from authors who have to "struggle" with a day job beside writing like the rest of us. I found you as I searched for such a content and subscibed after I found out that I can identify to your authors working days to learn from them. Additional, I learn from their thoughts and advices which leads hopefully to be published one day.

I love all your podcasts, they are particularly helpful as a first time writer, so thank you. Could you have some fantasy writers on? That’s my genre, so would be great to hear from those who have published fantasy. Many thanks, Adele

I'll definitely read her books! I love that attention to detail. So many historical fiction writing "experts" on yt say we shouldn't bother about historical accuracy because no one will notice, but it drives me crazy when I'm reading and notice inaccuracies. I'm working on a novel that's set in the 1850's and based on a Wilkie Collins character, so I have to be historically accurate AND canonically accurate, otherwise what's the point?
@writersroutine3 ай бұрын
Indeed, what's the point if it's not accurate? Best of luck with the novel!

@@waypay1 you are absolutely right. I’m the same. Working on mid 19c Irish book and the historian in me will allow me to refer to the period accurately. Good luck with your project 🤞☘️

Loved this episode. Catherine Gray is one of my favourite writers. I had the good fortune to get on one of her mentoring programmes and she is so generous and so encouraging and pretty inspirational herself. Actually she turned me on to Writer's Routine which I now tune into regularly! Highly recommend this podcast to all aspiring and jobbing writers.

I can relate to the feeling of doing nothing productive while writing. 😫 My day job has lots of stress and moving parts, then I come home and have pets and chores and family responsibilities. Just sitting/thinking/writing seem like luxury because nothing around the house is getting accomplished. The exception is when I'm working out a story problem over a sinkful of dirty dishes. I do some of my best problem-solving while violently scrubbing pots. 😂

What is meant by “When I re-write, I ‘key’. I dont edit. I ‘key’ the whole thing…” ??
@russellcameronthomas21164 ай бұрын
The word "key" here means "type", as in "type on a blank page". "Edit" here means "modify an existing page of text". So he is re-typing his whole manuscript by reading it off one screen/file and typing it into a new file. This way his brain processes every word through the act of typing, not just reading. In reading familiar material, it is easy to skim over and miss errors or awkward phrasing.

I can see why you don’t normally interview people who write about writing. They don’t want to give anything away, in order to make you buy the book. This just left me feeling that the book may be vague too 🙈

But you can't learn writing just by listening to podcasts. There is only one rule that works when it comes to writing: read and write a lot.

Stumbled across your podcast and so happy I did. I’m not a writer (wish I had the imagination and discipline) but I do wonder how top writers go about it. I read Pillars of the earth years ago and it remains one of my favourite books. I learnt so much from it and I look at architecture in a different way. You asked all the questions I would have asked and Ken Follet gave such detailed answers it was so interesting and informative. Thank you, I shall be listening to more of your podcasts.
