Do the "Probe Compensation" and "Function Check" as per the user manual if you want to prove it is faulty. Pg. 17-21 It's only going to show noise without actually probing a circuit. That's normal.

I had a similar issue with a western star few years back but opposite the truck wouldn’t shut off until you turned the lights off you could pull the keys out with ignition off and still drive around as long as you kept the light on took me a bit but I also traced it to the trailer plug in other words sounds like it would be easy to steal a western star without keys 😂

I 1000% agree that leaving the wire like this is unacceptable, however, I can see some (very little) logic behind not probing the connector. If there is a poor connection at that connector and you disturb it by attaching a probe, you may restore the connection and end up down a rabbit hole.

I use to be a fleet mechanic for a city that’s all they ran was fords from f250 - f450 god I done this more times I can’t count but I came up with a idea go to Lowe’s and get the blue universal cut to size filter and pull the computer out of cow on passenger side and stuff it pull it full down in with the filter also pop plastic cow cover lose stuff it down in there it’s still not as good as a cabin filter and it don’t stop it from ever doing that again, but it will extend the life 2-3 times longer trust me these trucks i worked on use to pull big leaf machine vacuum and natural used to run 5 days a week and we have to change the evaporator coils twice a years after doing this yet about three years out of a evaporator, coil and all you will have to do is twice a year is change out filters also great job on just replacing it it’s not worth it to clean it it’s way to much work to take out to just put a old one back in all the dirt can very easily rub pin hole in it
