Working while studying is only allowed in case the university + local immigration bureau allows you to, and even in such cases you will only be allowed to work within the university campus. It’s a pilot concept, some top universities (in collaboration with the immigration office) in some cities (eg Shanghai) are experimenting.

After the one person company has been introduced, we have registered two-three dozens of companies for clients using the same structure. They are actively exporting.

@@carlfranklin6871 we recommend Business (M) visa, to make it smooth. You can practically register a company on any visa, but banks might not (different branches have different reactions) accept other visas than Business (M)

@@carlfranklin6871 it’s a good business idea, however, ESL or anything related to it (even business English) is controlled area, you won’t be able to get a license for it now. China closed down most of the language training schools, and the remaining ones are either operating illegally OR they are large institutions with substantial investment ($20-$30 mil and up). But it’s easy to get a license for STEM subjects for example. Let us know, we will assist.

You might not need 10K / month (you could survive with 5K even), but that’s not the point, when you apply for a work permit as a business owner using your own company, the immigration calculates the basic salary based on average salary amount among foreigners. Showing less than 10K RMB / month as your salary is not recommended.

@jrandfirmllc Good morning! I see. Is a 10k salary exempt from taxes? Let's say that the company is not yet turning a profit but I am able to pay my personal bills with accountable money sent to my personal Chinese bank account from my home country, that would make more fiscal sense than to pay myself a salary thought the not yet profitable company and losing money thought taxes. Or is this the whole point of being forced to pay yourself a salary?

@ good morning to you too! It’s not exempt from personal income tax (around 150 yuan from 10K), because it’s a monthly salary. And yes, it’s absolutely mandatory to pay yourself salary from the company, otherwise it’s treated as abnormal business, and will affect your visa extension. We have come across with such situations many times before: company is running, but the director is not paying himself/herself, they immigration eventually makes them pay otherwise the applicant is blacklisted. Also makes them pay because your labor agreement is a binding document you must fulfill the obligation of.
