While I like the way you did this (less sewing, no need to be precise, definitely easier to install and it looks good to boot) I am curious how well it holds up long term. I assume the glue has a very high adhesion factor and is quite resistant to letting go over time, especially along the stitched edges? I will probably try this method out in some project in the near future. Where I am located it’s hot in the summers and leather has a terrible tendency to shrink and if it’s not sewn, stapled, nailed, or clipped down it almost certainly will let go in the sun.

The glue that I used for this is 150 degree Celsius high heat plasticiser resistant contact adhesive. It dries rock hard, not flexible like most contact adhesives. So its perfect for glueing to ridged surfaces.It also can't be removed from the good side of leather like other contact adhesives. But it has one drawback, the cost, £600/$750 for 17 litres/4.5 US gallons. also the only way to remove from your skin is with abrasives or just waiting for your skin to fall off

@ sounds like it’s sprayable cyanoacrylate (super glue). I’ll definitely give it a try. I recover a fair number of dashboards.

I actually think their seats are better than most, perhaps the reason you do more is they are simply worth fixing and they simply last longer than most cars.
@coastalcushionco82277 күн бұрын
Most Mercedes drivers seats start to show damage around 30,000 miles. I repair seats in Ford Fiestas, Vauxhall Corsas, VW golfs. BMWs, VW T 5s and so many other makes and models and all of them have done many more than 30,000 miles. Mercedes seats are made from cheep inferior materials plain and simple.

This comes from a place of caring, my friend. I hear you doing a lot of letting out of held breathes, when working over top of or bending toward your projects. I'm sure you've heard it a million ways to Sunday by this point in life, but as someone who also suffers intense chronic lower back pain, who has also recovered in recent years... Posture, bent knees and a higher table, could be the difference between a walker and a wheelchair way down the line. Massive respect for what you do. This would 100% convince me to keep this vehicle for as long as it lives. I too am in the automotive resto field, and I want all of us to live long and healthy lives 🤘💜 Edit: Granted, I could be totally wrong! I just used to a lot of breath-baiting, because I was always having to over-tighten and tense up my core to try and stabilize my lower spine, when bending and reaching out front of me 😅

I am thinking of gluing Celotex rigid insulation board to the inside walls of a newly built steel narrowboat. The inside surface of the steel hull will be primed with paint, the insulation board will have a silver foil surface and the hull sides are pancake flat. The cabin is 45 feet long and the hull sides are 6 feet high. The hull sides have welded reinforcement ribs which means I will be fitting the insultation as 2ft x 3ft sections. Total area for both hull sides is 45 m2 or about 80 3ft x 2ft sections. Does this sound like a viable job for spray contact adhesive? The narrowboat windows will be removable for ventilation and I would use the high temp variant of the glue. Other DIY narrowboat fitouts use thick beads of mastic glue for the same job but I am concerned moist air from the cabin will condense in the air void left between the mastic beads.
