Thank you for sharing this journey. I agree, Crawlspace Ninja is a great source of info. I had no idea of the importance of a "healthy" crawlspace until I started researching all of this. I am currently beginning the planning of doing an encapsulation, but will start with measuring humidity in the house, and the crawlspace too. I'm probably going to get a couple of estimates, like you did, but I'm sure that's going to be in the upper thousands. I've already priced out the supplies. But, when it's done, at least it'll be more pleasant to crawl under the house, not to mention the insulation will help the temp. Off to watch the next video. HNY!

I too love and only use Temco products even though I am on a very fixed income (I'm disabled and can't work anymore) I will not sacrifice quality for a lower price. Hi there, i learned thats it important to keep the battery to battery cables the same length for balancing purposes but did not see that the lengths of wires from pos and neg to fuse and neg terminals were important. Im still in the building process and have attached my fuse directly to the positive terminal on my battery via a copper conductor. I did see that explorist reccomends a maximum of 7" from battery pos terminal to fuse connector. Your thoughts?

How loud is the multiplus in the airstream when you are hooked up to shore power or when you are running off of the batteries?
@WayneBogan
@WayneBogan 10 ай бұрын
@adaminjp, you definitely hear the fan when in bulk charging mode. For example, if I hook up to shore power after traveling for a few hours, the Multiplus will initiate bulk charging and the fan will run to keep the unit cool until it reaches float. If you have the air conditioner running, you won’t hear it but within no other noise, you will notice if for a while. I’ll have to measure the DB to see how loud it gets. It is enough to notice but not enough to bother me.

I hate to say it, but after the batteries you’re using the wrong type of fuse, you need to use a T fuse they are more expensive, but those other fuses like you’re using can create an arc and allow the current to keep flowing with a T fuses it’s impossible

Wayne your testing theory is very flawed. Not trying to be confrontational or critical. The amperage being drawn is not the amperage of the loads, but instead reflects the amperage being drawn from your converter. The converter is supply DC voltage to the system, which is based on the need of the battery charge need, based on voltage, bulk charge, float charge, etc. We sold our EU3000 and bought the more lighter and more portable EU3200i. You really do not need the Surge protecter with your generator, as the generator is a very reliable isolated power source.
@UpintheAir.stream
@UpintheAir.stream Жыл бұрын
Wayne, I think you may be wrong about the need for your Battery Disconnect switch needing to be on for your converter to charge your onboard house batteries. Typicall the Airstream battery disconnect, just disconnects your DC Bus. You still have a couple of loads, propane detector for example. The Converter should charge the batteries anytime the Shore Power is plugged in. A way to test this would be to take the voltage of the house batteries directly without shore power, then take a voltage of the batteries with the shore power connected. The voltage should go up. Do this with the battery disconnect in the off position.

Good day Wayne, I been researching about crawlspace humidity and run across your very well explained and documented videos. Watch all of them. Tomorrow I'm planning to closed all the 11 vents and install an exhaust fan. I was told that by closing and sealing all the vents and installing exhaust fan, the crawl space will be dryer and not smelly because of the negative pressure effect. The craw space will be drawing air from the house through small creaks. Wonder what's your thought on that idea. Thank you very much!

Hi Wayne, great video and nice explanations! I assume your black AC cable going back to the BC panel is wired in place of the AC shore power - but then the Air Conditioner would also be on the same circuit? Were you able to easily separate those two circuits? And I'm wondering about the GFI protection for the AC outlets in the BC - was that an issue? Many thanks
@WayneBogan
@WayneBogan Жыл бұрын
Yes, the 10/2 cable travels from the inverter back to the main breaker on the panel. The AC is in a separate breaker in the panel. The GFCI outlets are on separate breaker and there have been no issues with that circuit so far.

Thanks again Wayne, just used this to de-winterize my 2021 16' Basecamp. Really appreciate the care you put into these videos. One Winterizing comment that may help other 16' owners: Due to how the Truma is very tightly plumbed in this smaller model, the all important drain valve for the Truma is very hard to see and find. It's almost under the unit by the floor - I eventually found it, literally by feel. You can see the valve (mine is yellow) by slightly moving the large black air duct on top, it's more or less in the middle of the Truma, near the edge of the (white board) enclosure. Nothing in the Airstream instructions made this easy to find. You'll know you've got it when you open the valve and the gallon or two of water in the Truma heater pours out the clear drain under the trailer. Trey, Santa Fe.

@Jim, I sanitize at least twice a year. But, as an example, if I go camping in April and won’t go again until June, I’ll sanitize again before the June trip just to be safe. I’ll fill the tank the day before add the bleach and then rinse 2-3 times the next day before I leave. Hope that is helpful.

Wayne, thanks for these really helpful video's. My Basecamp is parked on a piece of land with no access to city water or a well. I can however fill the fresh water tank with water that I bring in with my horse trailer. I was thinking of filling the fresh water tank partly up (with normal water) and using the internal pump (since I have no well pump or city water pressure) to flush the antifreeze out (as in your video 1, but by using the pump instead of the city water pressure). Then I would empty/drain the fresh tank again. But now I would have my antifreeze in the grey/black tanks. And as soon as I would have a camping trip come up, I would fill the fresh water tank up, the day before the trip with sanitizing water, let is stand for 24hrs, go to the camping and then empty all 3 tanks at once (so it all goes in a treatment system and not in free nature). Do you see anything wrong with this?
@WayneBogan
@WayneBogan Жыл бұрын
Hi Christophe, this sounds like a great plan. The water pump should provide more than sufficient water pressure to flush out the water lines for your dewinterization. Then dumping your tanks when you arrive at the campground would have you set for great adventures. Happy camping.

Hi EP, glad you like the videos. I avoid putting Clorox through the water heater based having read somewhere that it could cause problems long term. I keep the water heater isolated and will instead run vinegar through the water heater occasionally to clean out any scale. I assumed there is minimal water in the tankless system and very little need to clean the unit. I just flush it well with clean water. Hope that helps.

Wayne thank you for this video! I have a chance to become a Basecamp 20x owner, but I have some concerns about power capacity. My wife is on an oxygen concentrator that we need to be able to run 24x7. I am wondering about how long we could be off-grid for while running the usual appliances (assuming worst case cloudy weather and in the cold). The concentrator is 120 VAC (+/- 10%), 60 Hz with average consumption of 325 Watts. Would you be able to tell me (a) how long I'd be able to run that machine (and the others) off-grid with the stock batteries, (b) the same but with the same upgrade you did? Also, how long would a generator keep me going before I'd have to refuel? Sorry for the basic questions, I am a real noobie when it comes to RVing. I am making my way through your other super helpful videos as well. Cheers!
@WayneBogan
@WayneBogan 2 жыл бұрын
Hi @cdesaint, I'm glad the videos are helpful. As a baseline example, my Basecamp 20X came with two 80 amp hour AGM batteries and 180 watts of solar. That equates to 160 amp hours but you can only take AGM batteries down to 50% which left me with 80 amp hours of usable capacity. In regards to power usage on your oxygen concentrator, I used a calculator from Explorist.Life as a quick view of power needed (www.explorist.life/what-size-of-solar-system-is-needed-to-power-a-camper/). 325 watts @ 120v for one hour would require approximately 27 amp hours of power. So you could essentially get about 2.5 hours of usage out of my AGM batteries. If you run the concentrator for 24 hours, you will need ~27 amp/hr * 24 hours = ~650 amp hours per day. The Lithium batteries I installed give me 800 amp hours of usable capacity. In that case, I could run the concentrator for one day. So in either case, you will need generator to supplement the batteries. A Honda EU2200 would have more than enough power to recharge your batteries and will run ~3 - ~8 hours based on load. A lighter load of just the concentrator could probably get you closer to 7-8 hours. A larger generator like the Honda Eu3000is has a larger gas tank and can run ~7 to ~19 hours. This would be a better option for ensuring consistent performance and fewer times you have to run the generator. The 3000 watt generator could more quickly recharge the batteries and minimize any downtime. Hope this is helpful. Let me know if we need to get on a call to get into further details.

Hello Wayne. Just to add, I spoke to my dealer tech and he said with all of the Basecamps, they don’t drain the hot water tank and just run antifreeze right through the Suburban on demand. He said it’s actually better that way to ensure there isn’t any standing water in the hot water heater somewhere.
@WayneBogan
@WayneBogan 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Erick, I actually did the same this year as a test. The Suburban manual says it is up to the manufacturer. The only concern I have is making sure the unit doesn’t go into freeze protection when with propane on and burn the antifreeze in the line. I pulled the fuse to prevent this. Thanks for confirmation

@outdoorsman7799
@outdoorsman7799 Жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne. What fuse do I pull to prevent the hot water heater from going into freeze protection if I run antifreeze through it? Is it a shared fuse that will prevent me from running the furnace during the winter? I followed the compressed air method video from SlowYourRoll to blow out the water lines followed by this video with RV antifreeze last year and I still ended up with a broken water heater when I de-winterized it this spring. The dealership told me I did something wrong to cause freeze damage when I told them I followed both videos step-by-step and there should be no way of that happening. They told me that I should leave the hot water tank valve open but it seems very odd to me that Airstream provides scan codes throughout my 2022 Basecamp 20X for basic things like installing the tables but conveniently leaves out something as critical as proper step-by-step winterization to prevent this from happening.

Wayne, when you are running the antifreeze through the lines, do you go back and dump the small amount of water that entered the gray tank? Or because it’s mixed with antifreeze you just leave it?
@WayneBogan

For the grey and black tanks, I just leave the little water that entered the grey and black tanks and don't worry about dumping again. There is some antifreeze that goes into the grey tank as you add antifreeze to the sink drain and even more that goes into the black tank as you flush the toilet to get the antifreeze through the lines.
