When taken by mouth: Kola nut is commonly consumed in foods. Kola nut is possibly safe when used as medicine for up to 12 weeks. Kola nut is possibly unsafe when used in large amounts or long-term. Chewing Kola nut is linked to an increased risk for mouth cancer and stomach cancer. Consuming large amounts of Kola nut might also cause side effects due to its caffeine content. These side effects can range from mild to serious and include headache and irregular heartbeat. Stick to caffeine doses under 400 mg daily to limit side effects. Suddenly stopping caffeine use can sometimes cause withdrawal symptoms, including headaches, anxiety, and dizziness. I recommend talking with your Doctor before consuming it. Pregnant women especially.

Sauerkraut is finely cut raw cabbage that has been fermented by various lactic acid bacteria. It has a long shelf life and a distinctive sour flavor, both of which result from the lactic acid formed when the bacteria ferment the sugars in the cabbage leaves. Sauerkraut is incredibly nutritious and healthy. It provides probiotics and vitamin K2, which are known for their health benefits, and many other nutrients. Eating sauerkraut may help strengthen your immune system, improve your digestion, reduce your risk of certain diseases, and even lose weight.

What is asparagus? Asparagus is a delicious springtime vegetable, known for its slim, spear-like shape. The name comes from the Greek word “asparagos” which means “to spring up.” It’s one of the first green vegetables to arrive after winter ends, and plenty of people consider it a true delicacy. Asparagus is a spear-like vegetable and a member of the lily family (liliaceae). In the UK asparagus season runs from April until June, traditionally starting on the 23 April (St George’s Day) and ending on the summer solstice in June. Most asparagus is green in colour but you can also get white and purple varieties, too. Health benefits of asparagus include: 1. It acts as a prebiotic, feeding good bacteria in the gut. 2. Studies suggest that asparagus may help ease a hangover. 3. Asparagus is a rich in folate. 4. Eating asparagus may help relieve inflammatory conditions. 5. It’s a good source of potassium so may help lower blood pressure.

Ostrich fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris) fiddleheads are edible. You can identify them by their papery, brown, scale-like covering over the fiddlehead. They're approximately one inch in diameter and have a smooth fern stem. On the inside of their fern stem, they have a deep, U-shaped groove...
