Another great episode. Steve really need to do a volume of books!! If" Donna Lewis did 3 how many volumes could steve do!! Speaking about Donna lewis, in her excellent 3rd volume it seems like after october 72 she never attended any film shows!! I wonder if steve knows the reason why? It would be cool to have Donna, steve and shirley mconnell on the show.

He was meeting Lucy DeBarbin on that trip as well. She shared this back in early 80's and swore Elvis was wearing purple when ppl was naysaying. He indeed was wearing purple. She has the only known confirmed poem penned by EAP. Certified by five top hand writing experts and matches the two significant styles of letters as in his letter he penned to Nixon. He called her Desiree as he met her before he was famous (when he was mowing yards) and they watched the Marlan Brando movie, and she called him, her El Lance A Lot. When he took the Polygraph back when a lady falsely accused parenthood on Elvis. John O' Grady knew this, and Elvis passed that polygraph. He hadn't cheated on P but she had him, at that time. But in Charlie's attempt to deny a Lucy, (but Gene Smith said there was a Lucy and he would've known bc he was there during that time) said that during the questioning of women he had seen or spoke to and Elvis said a woman by the name of Desiree. That in fact was Lucy. The poem was valued at $100K just by the expert in '87. Now it's worth millions but she not their daughter, Desiree would sell it.

Well.. some of that isn't quite right. Elvis wasn't wearing purple at the Nixon meeting, he was wearing black: his 1969 black Cossack suit with a shirt under it, and a velvet jacket draped over the ensemble - most likely the black velvet jacket used in the "Supper Club Sequence" of the '68 Comeback Special, but potentially a nearly identical jacket. Some of Nixon's people might have seen a shine from the velvet and thought it was purple, but it wasn't. As for Elvis and Priscilla... we all love Elvis here, but there really wasn't a long time when Elvis was exclusive to Priscilla. The rest is something we'd have to look into, as I honestly haven't really looked into Lucy much, but I think (as with all things, honestly) approaching it with a healthy amount of skepticism is a good idea. :)

There’s a story that CBS gave Elvis tapes of what was recorded for the 77 Special and he gave them to Janelle McComb.
@EAPSocietyКүн бұрын
I remember hearing about that! I'd love to know the full story there; if true, the details, and if not, how it came to circulate around!

@@EAPSociety What’s weird about this is, what good were the tapes to Janelle McComb if she didn’t have a machine to play them on? And, if true, what happened to them?

When NBC broadcast the 68 Special and Aloha after he died in Sept. of 77, it was one special called “Memories of Elvis” Hosted by Ann Margret and it ran for 3 hours. It showed a 90 minute cut of the 68 special where they added the Bordello scene and I think extra sit down stuff and of course Aloha was 90 minutes. But they were all part of the same 3 hour special. We bought our first VCR in the fall of 77 so I taped both the 77 special and the Aloha/68 special, plus the hour long version of Elvis On Tour that NBC played in the fall of 77.

Great video! At the time Elvis would have acquired the Sony U-matic Video Player, the Sony Regional Sales Manager in the California Los Angeles area was John Henry Carpenter, the man who many believe was responsible for Bob Crane's passing. John handled all of the celebrity clients including Elvis, Richard Dawson, and Bob Crane. Do you think it is possible with the serial number of this machine to tie it back to John Henry Carpenter?
@EAPSociety3 күн бұрын
Oh, interesting, thank you for sharing that info! And it might be possible, but other than being able to get the serial number, I'd have to do some looking to know for sure. I don't know a lot about the U-Matic, so I'd be flying a bit on the blind side (I'd imagine there's a community on it somewhere). 😁
@manlystranger49733 күн бұрын
@@EAPSociety Here is an excerpt from an article in the April 21st 1993 Phoenix New Times in which Carpenter tells his story of delivering, demonstrating, and instructing Elvis in the use of a VCR and you have to wonder if this is the exact machine you reference in this video: Lyndon Baines Johnson, then president of the United States, was the first person in this country to buy a VCR, Carpenter says. The second was comedian Red Skelton, then starring in his own show. Carpenter spent a few days at Skelton's home, demonstrating how the thing worked. Later, he personally instructed luminaries, from Alfred Hitchcock to Elvis Presley, in the magic of Sony. Carpenter wasn't the star-struck type, though he says a visit to the King's Bel Air mansion in the late 1960s was memorable: "I go to the front gate and I'm told, 'Leave your pencils out here. You won't write down what you see in here or what you do in here. You won't talk about it with anyone. But while you're here, your wish is our command.'" Elvis was an excellent student, Carpenter says--alert and full of life, at that point. Before Carpenter left, he says, Elvis gave him a small painting of himself that a fan had done. Carpenter still has it. But the most significant person Carpenter instructed--in terms of his present status as a murder defendant--was British actor-comedian Richard Dawson, then appearing as Peter Newkirk on the hot television show Hogan's Heroes.

We always called those 3/4" tapes. Check your local cable company (if they still have public access channel) they may have a player there. My wife was editing on 3/4" tapes into the mid-1990's for local government & cable access.

@LEQ-cw9iz3 күн бұрын
I believe that tape format is sometimes referred as Super VHS. You local news affiliate station, more than likely, has a player. Your public access channel should also have that machine sitting around. Thats the format they were still using in the 90's. Also, there's a ton of weirdos/enthusiasts out there that enjoy odd formats. Probably wouldn't be that difficult to find somewhere to transfer those tapes. Or at least, borrow a cord. Thanks guys, I could listen to Steve for days. After that, I'm sure, I'd have to call the law to remove him.

I just don’t believe this stuff, it doesn’t align with what I have researched. It’s ok, maybe it’s true, but I think it’s sensationalist. 😊 That said, Its’s ok, but maybe I’m to wrong, but I can tell ya, they used to sign Elvis’s name on scarves and posters at any given time. I just don’t believe this guy… My opinion, of closer…No disrespect.
@EAPSociety3 күн бұрын
Hey, Frankie! No disrespect taken at all, I assure you! I can say that more of what Steve says ends up lining up in ways that there's no way he could have calculated. Not everything, of course, and that's important to note, too. That said, we see this as him just recounting what he remembers along with what he recalls Sonny telling him (and he did know Sonny very well toward the end). So we see this as his view of it, not the full story. When we get around to doing a full objective deep-dive into parts of Elvis history (which we really want to do at some point), think of this as one more piece to either take in, accept, or reject. (In whole or in part). Does he say in the video that they didn't sign Elvis's name? Because yeah, they absolutely did do it.

Fantastic discussion! I really enjoyed the insight into Blue Moon, I had been curious why Sun never released that. I think it’s brilliant and get blown away when thinking about Elvis only being 19 when he did it. As I am still somewhat new in my Elvis journey, it’s interesting to realize that some of those Sun recordings weren’t released because Sam didn’t really like them/weren’t what Sam was looking for. I just assumed that Sun ran out of time to release them before Elvis’s contract was sold to RCA.
