I appreciate a straightforward program like this. Thanks, AJ!

Why not just transpose the roulette wheel(without chairs), then raise it? Then you could allocate chairs under it to give a 3D perspective.

Those tokens could be great for objects of interest in a room. Maybe have a token for a barrel or some object you want the players to interact with. It may help with the occasional confusion when you use a map you snagged from somewhere and someone fixates on a random map detail!

The Townsquare with walls makes no sense. The organic rooms is getting close to the idea but still has limitations.
@qwertsgamingchannel7504 Жыл бұрын
Without the walls, the players can just look out at a vast, empty grey waste beyond the edge of the map. The walls constrain the vision. You COULD make the map huge, but then you'd have to deal with loading issues and hope your VTT of choice could deal with the size of it, and that still wouldn't actually fix the problem.

I managed to make a couple of large maps with irregular dungeon rooms - diagonal walls, curved corners, etc. I'm pretty sure the Dwarves that built this dungeon will be upset that I think their work looks like it does, but I'm happy to have something to play with! lol I spent hours messing with it to build and re-build, but at least I got what I wanted out of it! I did use more of a freehand version of this method, gotta say I'm looking forward to being able to angle or curve regular walls! Thanks for the video!

This isn't a VTT. This is map-making software. At present, it does not allow external users to connect to it.
@damianchenot26672 жыл бұрын
Are the spaces between the trees navigable by players after you export the map? As in, can they have their tokens in an area occupied by a tree? A medium or smaller sized creature may want to hide behind a tree or use it as cover for a ranged attack. I think it is easy for a tree's canopy to give the illusion of being blocking terrain in a 2D environment.

Dungeon Alchemist is really excellent - I wonder if you can keep the 3d aspect and import it into FGU and have the lights still work - rather than just the top down view - as I feel we're missing out a little on the wonderful graphics.
@qwertsgamingchannel75042 жыл бұрын
There is an isometric view, where the walls angle slightly away from the center, but it causes problems on larger maps, as the grid squares end up on some of the walls. One way to recapture some of that wonderful is to take screenshots from within Dungeon Alchemist and import them as images... so your players can get a different view of the room you're in.
@bookergrimm2 жыл бұрын
Quick tip. To drag tokens through walls, you can hold shift as you drag them. Also if you want to add lights to a character, it's quicker to select the light from the effects menu and drag it to the combat tracker. :) With multiple characters selected, you can drag the whole party through walls this way.

Can Dungeon Alchemist import assets to use in dungeons? I'm talking about 3d objects to use as scatter terrain.
@DMKarinZeeland2 жыл бұрын
It has assets in the program itself. Importing new ones is not possible in DA itself. But you can do it after you import the map in a VTT program like Fantasy Grounds Unity.

@pepper12912 жыл бұрын
for world maps I recommend Wonderdraft. Dungeon Alchemist is good for battle maps
@qwertsgamingchannel75042 жыл бұрын
Right now, Dungeon Alchemist is just for battle maps. But it's a brand new software, and the developers have a long list of things they want to add to it already. I imagine that it will eventually be suited for world maps as well. For now, I use Inkarnate for world maps; it does them very well, and there are plenty of free assets available for it even if you're not a subscriber to Inkarnate ($25 a year, can't beat that for the quality!)
@damianchenot26672 жыл бұрын
Are there resizing anchors available after you've made a background like that? The actual battlefield area in the meadow looked really short, about 50 ft at its longest point if you assume each square is five feet. Sometimes you just want to take advantage of your spell/bow's 120 foot range!
@qwertsgamingchannel75042 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I can change the size of the map at the creation or I can also do it mid-creation on the fly, simply by drawing objects out over empty terrain. The program will auto-populate those portions of the terrain that it needs to add to keep the map rectangular/square. I'll show that in the next video! Thank you!

Another thought. You used that parchment as a background for the map. I wonder if you can pick an existing map image, make it your backdrop, then use the application to effectively "trace" over each room. When you're done, change the background back to that parchment.
