Just note that the only Top 100 I’ve done are games from Japan & there are games in my top 25 this year that aren’t from Japan. If I do a Top 100 again, it would be of all Asia and not just Japan

Oh there are! Japan definitely has those. Unfortunately those thematic games require a TON of translation and nobody has gotten around to it yet. Hence, they didn't appear on this list. I'm in the long process of translating one of those right now. It's slow going, but I'm hoping to play the game soon & share what I find.

@@CardboardEast got any suggestions on good ones? I'm quite curious, I won't say it's not a problem if they're in japanese but... I should be able to makes sense of it with jisho and a lot of patience :D

@@giannisc.5254 I can’t speak for everyone, but I love it. There is a demand for small box games that are more travel friendly, especially as society becomes more on the go. I would argue this trend extends into other industries as well, which is why Nintendo won the console wars with the Switch. I sold my old Azul in favor of the travel edition. I would love to see a Playte version of Concordia, Hansa, or other classic euros from the 00s. While this trend in board gaming may not be for you, surely the hobby is big enough to allow more options for everyone. I think we can both agree that all Gamers like having options.

@CardboardEast I appreciate the reply, but we argue different things. I am all for pocket, mini, portable etc edition of games that allow you to more easily carry them around so we agree on that. What I don't want is for the protective box of the game to be its board, because if the box is damaged (which meh unfortunate but I can play my game just fine) then the board is damaged (which is serious and does lead to me being unable to play the game). Lastly, yes, it's great that we have so many choices.

@ That’s fair. These Playte boards/boxes are quite thick and sturdy though & feel thicker than typical game boards. Boxes are rough in the industry in that they’re typically the flimsiest component, but they’re always the biggest and most expensive component of any game. This solution is great for publishers as it’s two birds with one stone. You do run the risk of what you stated earlier. It’s just a question of whether or not the consumer sees it as worth the risk. I do. You don’t. But like we both agreed, the hobby is big enough and it’s better to have options. Cheers!
