Mark Daly nailed it. Music isn't necessary for happiness, but without it... you just feel lost. It truly does bring a piece of magic that can enhance the beauty of life around us, which I believe art in general has the capacity to do for us.

Well Nick, you have earned the compliments from Casey at the end of the interview. You are a very nice guy and an unbelievably good drummer, one of the best in the world! And yet you are modest and you respect everyone, whatever level they’re playing. I really love that.

Been watching his videos for years. He’s a flashy drummer for sure. whereas some try to play a particular song technically perfect, he’s more about the fun aspect of it. I think he mentioned that. ….not that it’s a bad thing, but if you looked for instructional drum covers, his may not be the first one you go to. At least a lot of his earlier ones. I’ve never heard him interviewed, so I appreciate this. He sounds like he’s down to earth and has his head on his shoulders right…..Good for him. Hope he keeps succeeding.

Really happy you asked "do you need to play music to be happy" honestly. I get discouraged from playing because I just don't have the time to "get pro" with my career and all, but it's like a fundamental need. Even if it ends up as scratchy garbage, it's like a kind of release. Loved the interview Nick!

You got to love Billy. Saw him live just once in May 2011, in Madrid Spain. With Mr Big when "What If ..." came out. For sure I would have loved to see him with Niacin.... I still remember the day I discovered "High Bias" and heard his solos on the track "Montuno", specifically the second solo in the tune... For Crom and Odin sake... such a great solo :)

Awesome ! Could you please tell me how long is the gooseneck for your mic ? and are you happy with this mic in comparison to a Shure Beta 56 A ? many thanks !
@NDVirgilio
@NDVirgilio 25 күн бұрын
I think the length is 19”? It is the longer of the two options. The Beta 56 is a great mic but it’s very bright which is not great with drum bleed. The Telefunken has a nice clear tone and the bleed is pleasant. Hope that helps. Cheers!

For sure! Don’t lose the joy and really you’re never too old. You can play in many different ways. Giant world tours are cool but you can find a ton to do locally. Get creative and you’ll find a path. Cheers

Hi Nick Congratulations first of all on your successful marriage. I really appreciate your candid and honest thoughts about your career and the music business. To answer your first question, I do need to play music to be happy. I’ve been at this for well over 40 years. I believe what you said about building relationships, being a good person, doing the job to the best of your abilities…all those things. I’m like you started, Music IS my drug. It’s not easy at times. Often compare it to a marriage…only with 4-5 or more people involved. I’ve had my share of sideline fill-in type gigs my. Some with smaller artists some with cover bands. Some I really liked, some I wasn’t as wide about, but I’ve feel I’ve always treated them the same. Good points Thank you for this. Oh and I guess I’m watching these backwards, cuz I watched #3, first then 2 with Billy now # 1 All great! ✌️❤️🥁

This was short but an incredible interview with my favorite bass player and one of the nicest guys in the business. I’ve personally had the opportunity of playing a few songs with Billy (rock camp) as well as attending his bass clinics. As a fellow drummer like you he’s a joy to jam with and amazing to watch perform. Been following Billy since the early to mid 80’s I truly appreciate and admire his thoughts on the questions you asked him. So glad he never went down the road of drug abuse etc…. I know it’s not easy in this business. I was probably like him about that aspect. I too have seen the destruction it does to friends and fellow musicians. Billy is the nicest and most humble player you will ever meet. Like you said, he’s done this on the biggest stages all over the world for years, and he’s as humble as can be. I often says this, Billy probably thinks I’m a stalker, cuz I follow his career and events he does so much. lol He knows I love him. Keep up the great work Nicky D Enjoining theres. Billy if you’re reading this we gotta play together again. I’m not that far from Nashville. 😁🥁🎸✌️
