On the face of it. But a stock LT1 Trans Am would trap somewhere in the mid 90s in the quarter. Both the ZL1 and ProCharged Camaro SS were trapping 110-118 mph in the 1320 at Palm Beach that day. At the time of the shoot, the ZL1 was putting down 505 rwhp, and the SS was just a hair under 600 rwhp. Both are setup for road racing, not drag racing. Since we had full access to the PBIR facility that day, we just through caution to the wind and said, why not? See my comment to Billy Bowerman for more info. We'll be hitting up PBIR again on the 23rd of April, for more updates on all of these cars.

Mine had 120K miles on it and trapped 99.88 on street tires. I wasn't too happy about not breaking into the 100 club that day with it and yes I understand they were set up for road racing.

Actually it's pretty close to sea level. The problem is, launching a 4200 lb. Camaro built for road racing, not drag racing, with IRS, 20-inch wheels, low-profile street tires, and 600 whp isn't the easiest things in the world to do. Like I pointed out in the video, it was very hot and humid that day, and the track surface was quite slick as a result. If you note the trap speed, the black SS was clicking off trap speeds in the 114-118 range - which would translate to high 11s, low 12s in the perfect world.

@@nickc8819 Because of all the "bugs" that need to be hammered out, which is pretty common in a new vehicle. It's usually a good idea to avoid the first model year of any completely redesigned vehicle, as they tend to have the most issues/recalls. But this is more for people who buy a car for personal use, vs. a very limited (and expensive) collector car like the GNX above.

Technically, this car had been in production since 1981 know as the Buick Regal. The first of the turbocharged Grand Nationals cars arrived for sale in '84 (won't mention the '82). I don't think of this as a first year run car. The total out put of the '87 Grand National reached over twenty thousand. Unfortunately, with an only option year car, and only five hundred made, #001. It's a chance you have to take. I would!
