One way to protect against oil taken from the PCV system from polluting your fresh fuel-air charge is to install oil separator cans or oil collector cans. These things work wonderfully and really prevent such mishaps, thus doing exactly what you said: improving fuel economy as well as allowing your engine to produce its nominal advertised BHP. These oil catch cans look just like these cans in this vid: watch: xse-Vw_i8Ms These ones are for Ford, but they also have them for Chevy and Mopar.

LS series, first off, are entirely cast from aluminum instead of iron like the LTs. They also use coil ignition instead of distributor-type set-ups. The cylinder firing order was changed from 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 to 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3. The result is a much smoother operation; it's one of the reasons you can't really get the old-school, aggressive-cam thumping sound out of them. They are more of a growl. The curved intake runners also force more air into the engine, allowing for easier breathing.

Good to see it'll be built back at the old Tonawanda engine plant in Buffalo where most of the old Corvette engines were manufactured.

Ha ha, I wish! Naw, it's a black/black base coupe with a 6-speed. All 6-speed Corvettes came with the LT-4 in 1996, and vice versa. Probably one of the most underrated packages in the history of the Corvette. Thanks though!

Pushrod = light weight low center of gravity, low maintenance cost, cheaper upgrades. more low end torque, less wear to make power, larger powerband 525hp LS3 $7.5k 400lbs 84.6hp/liter with low end torque DOHC Low durability, High maintenance cost, expensive and difficult to tune, high center of gravity, take up more space with less displacement, Tears itself up trying to make hp piston speed to make power 82.58mph 5.0L 412hp $8.5k 444lbs 82.4hp/liter less low end and peak torque

Nobody listen to this, it's mostly lies. Low center gravity, cheaper and low end torque for pushrod is true. Higher center gravity and take up more space for ohc is true. That's it

@@sategllib2191 5.0L piston peak piston speed is 82.5mph, not the average over the entire stroke. short rods to stroke ratio means the piston is being pushed against the cylinder wall at a steep angle, this cause the piston to accelerate mid stroke use a steep angle also means wear and tear this means the piston is actually traveling faster than the crankshaft mid stroke but slower at TDC and BDC the mid stroke piston speed helps activate the runners with high velocity air, which means if you time the valve closing at the right time, you can be more than 100% volumetric efficiency without valve overlap or scavenging problem is even though 6.2L is 20% bigger, 5.0L only gets 3% better fuel economy driving slowly yet a 6.2L and a 5.0L in a race, the 5.0L would run out of fuel first. needing high rpm to make power means you're actually displacing more per minute in fuel/air. all those extra cams and valves come at an expense(not just wear and tear) at full throttle mustangs run out of fuel faster than camaros if you need help with a comeback, I can help you but it won't change these facts

GM has always had OHC engines. During the 60's, GM was planning to introduce a SOHC 427 to compete with Fords SOHC cammer, & Mopar's SOHC & DOHC 426 Hemis. But NASCAR banned these so the Big3 dropped them (except for Ford). The 1990-95 ZR1'Vette had the LT5, DOHC 32V 5.7L, and it was completely untouchable; Ford&Mopar couldnt beat it. Caddy had the DOHC 32V Northstar engines. And the 2010-present Camaro V6 are all DOHC 24V w/ cam phasing, the newer ones making over 320BHP stock.

I have not done much study on any of the LT engines..most of my research and experience goes to the LS series but since GM has designed this new LT monster im going to have to start doin some research and learn more about the LT engines..im a HUGE GM fan and def wanna know more about those engines

glad to see it's still a pushrod engine, and not a pos overhead cam engine, it makes sense because cylinder deactivation wil not work on an overhead cam engine

The irony is that the LS7 gets pretty decent mileage despite its big 7.0L displacement, ha ha. It's all about how you drive. I actually like the L98s, they have gobs of low-end torque and that makes them very fun to drive around town. Some modifications to help it breathe and a more aggressive cam can raise that power up past the 300 mark easily. They also don't have the Optispark to deal with, which isn't all that bad but can get dicey under moist conditions.

It's just good timing. The first LT1 was released in 1970 model year, and the second time LT1 was used was 22 years later in the 92 model year. Guess what? It'll be 22 years again for the 2014 model year to be released with the LT1 again. Yea, we're that old, lol

Actually, onegoal2006 is correct. I read everything in this vid that you're arguing about and he is correct. There is proof and its not in any magazines. McGees made DOHC top fuel engines that made 10,000 hp. McGees DOHC engines were so powerful that all the other engine builders made NHRA ban DOHC. The pushrod top fuelers couldn't beat the McGees engines

the main difference is the reverse flow cooling. Instead of water going to the intake it goes into the heads then to the block then back to the heads then back to the radiator. Meaning higher compression for street use. Higher compression = more power!!

Well this is beautiful... finally GM is adding new tech to their small block. BUT, not too much so that they are deviating from their general 2V pushrod design, love it. GDI was a good choice, as well as VVT. Although the gas mileage is nearly the same as my old 6 speed LS1 running on all 8 with no VVT, cylinder deactivation, or stratified charge mode like on this GDI engine? Whatsup with that GM lol? And why name it the LT1..? Are they that ashamed of the Gen II LT1 ahah. Great engine.

Are you referencing the LSx or the LTx? I ask because the Gen II SBC LT1/LT4 had reverse-flow cooling as well. That was one of the key changes that allowed GM to bump the power up to 300/330 (respectively) from the 240 being made by the L98. But yes, this change does exactly what you say it does.

Cobra jet crate: M-6007-CJ13, $16495, over 500BHP naturally aspirated, tuned to over 700BHP within the limits of NHRA. The LS7 7.0L costs $16956 from West Coast Corvette, $16955 from Southern Performance, and similarly at other sites for MSRP. If you don't believe me, look up Ford Racing Direct and those other sites I mentioned.

Sweet! Can't wait to see the full review in GM High-Tech Mag. Those intake ports look huge & that intake design is really different. Longer runners for more torque? Glad to see that Gen 5 is also a compact, tidy package. Are they really going to call it LT1? Should pick something else.

This is not a 5.7L 350ci, it is bigger: 6.2L, 378ci. This LT1 is not the olde LT1 from 20 years ago, its bigger and better by far. For 2014, the 6.2L LT1 will probably only replace the LS3 & L99 engines. The base Corvettes will gut the new LT1, &rumor has it the Camaro SS will also get it. I dont think the LS7, LSA, and LS9 will be replaced; I think they will still go in the Z06, 'Maro ZL1, & 'Vette ZR1 respectively.

My guess is because of all the electronic BS that government mandates. The C7's frame is actually lighter than the C6's but because of all the added gadgets and do-dads the car still weighs roughly the same. Most of the weight was added back. Back in the day a car was engine, transmission, gas pedal. :P

Wish they'd have used a different rpo. lol I had a talk with a friend about this couple months ago and something I brought up is present in this videos comment thread lol. When talking about the LT1, the first question is going to be "which one?". I hate that for some reason. Why couldn't it be LS5 like was originally planned? Or hell LT2 or something. Why a third LT1? oh well.

Yeah im talking about Gen 2 small block. The only difference in gen 1 and gen 2 is the opti, water pump, and reverse flow cooling. I kinda wish Gen V had reverse flow cooling lol. Talk about 13:1 compression on pump gas ;) L98's were one of the were small blocks ever made imo. My favorite small block was the DZ 302. Best big block was 454 LS6. I still wish GM can produce a New Big Block but no one will buy since dumbasses are all about gas mileage nowadays.

Ur wrong again. Direct Injection or DI is better because it lts U go 11.5 compression. But because its a pushrod, U cant' go better compression like 12.5 to one because pushrods detonate. Put DI in a DOHC and U can go 12.5 to one and 13.5 to one. Diesel engines are direct injection and they go 14 to on or even 17 to one compression.

Fancy seeing you here, son. No,pushrods see a lot of wear too. Look at the Z28 LS7: worse rod/stroke ratio, much faster piston speed at redline than the 5.0L, and pretty expensive in its own right. The 5.0L has more tuning options like variable lobe separation from TIVCT. Can't do that with pushrods.

No Im' not. Chevy got sick of paying Lotus for the special DOHC ZR1 motor in 1990 &Chevy cant make DOHC. So Chevy lied to us by saying pushrod is better. If pushrod is so good, why does Camaro today use DOHC? Because DOHC is better!
