Is it a good time to join mercer im im all clear to start orientation on Wednesday next week

@@donyero9033 I’ll be honest with you. Mercer is not a bad company. Their system with the first in first out takes a little bit of getting used to. The average owner operator won’t last long over here, but I don’t know you or your work ethic, business sense, and trucking history, or your expectations. How much are you expecting to gross a week? What are your business expenses? What are your personal expenses? Do you know your cost per mile (including paying yourself) do you know your fuel cost per mile? Do you know that every time you move your truck it costs you money even if it’s just driving to Walmart for groceries. Do you know the difference between fixed costs and variable costs? If you can live with grossing $4,000 a week and taking home $1,500-$2,000 (dry van) you’ll be fine. You can do better, but out the gate until you learn the system that’s where I would set my expectations. A $5,000 week is a good week at Mercer. The really good owner operators do $5,500-$6,000 a week, but they have really figured the system out and run the proper lanes to do so. Not trying to scare you off just being honest. Feel free to reach out to me anytime with questions. Good luck at the end of the day it’s what you make of it.

@Smooth_Operator_83Күн бұрын
@@donyero9033 I think you’ll be fine as long as you’re being strategic with load selection. Don’t take a good paying load to a dead zone unless it’s paying enough to justify it. At Mercer it’s more about the longer runs than the shorter pickup and drop off daily runs. I think you’ll be fine. Keep us posted.

You have to get off the cents per mile attitude. You don’t get paid by the mile at landstar you get paid by the load. If you aren’t booking loads that pay a minimum of $1400 a day before Landstar’s cut you are truly going backwards. Set a weekly revenue goal & you will do fine. Also “long haul” loads generally are cheap compared to moving a step at a time from East to West.
@Smooth_Operator_832 ай бұрын
My mentor is Larry Long of blue ribbon logistics. I look at daily revenue, weekly, and monthly. At Mercer I try to do $1,000 a day and $1,500 for a weekend load for $5,500 (that’s after Mercers cut) a week. Cost per mile isn’t the end all be all, but you do have to try to stay above your CPM after deadhead and all miles. Mine is $1.50 a mile. It’s hard stringing 4-5 loads a week together here because of the deadhead in between loads and scheduling conflict. Sometimes it’s been better to take a longer less paying load to keep the revenue going.
@johnpiper58152 ай бұрын
Damn this comment was for another video I was watching lol. What a clown 🤡. Anyways glad to see your doing good over at Mercer I hadn’t seen anything from you in a while. Hope you’re still keeping the Larry Long mindset over there.
