Chaney would be far more animated than this; this looks like Terry Gilliam animated it. Lon was said to lurk like a predator , according to people who remember seeing the original. Ah, well...
@jonbuseyhunt4 сағат бұрын
It essentially IS like Terry Gilliam animated it, it's basically just cut-out stills. You can't really control the animatedness of the characters with this limited technology. As generative AI improves, it might become more possible to recreate his performance including the "Groucho walk" but for now, it's basically a cartoon with photos.

The album version released in 1967 or thereabouts was a huge disappointment after all the hype in the musical press. It also included the two singles 'Good Vibrations' and 'Heroes and Villains' which most of us had bought as 45rpm singles. Vegetables was the best new track on the album. Other tracks were merely pleasant at best. She's Goin' Bald was dreadfully silly. And 'Wind Chimes' was also cringe. Something clearly had gone wrong. All was not well with Brian.

Smiley Smile is perhaps one of the biggest oddities in all of pop music, to me. Almost more than Smile itself. It’s like, “we couldn’t finish Smile, so let’s try to make it again, but downscaled, but also with tapes that were already going to be on Smile anyways, but also with completely new songs that are also downscaled.”

This is amazing. Any chance of a complete reconstruction. I do believe there is a copy of this film hidden in someone's attic or basement. I pray, one day in my lifetime it gets found.

I wish that this track didn’t have the bland clean production and Brian doing his robot vocals because I really feel as though that is what holds it back from being one of his best solo tracks.
@jonbuseyhunt5 ай бұрын
I think, given the time of release, it's more likely comped all to heck than autotuned. Listening to how much emotion he puts into his vocals compared to later, I will say it's kind of astonishing in retrospect. My additions: I took out the rather nasty synth drums and the chunky "Rat pedal" guitar that sounded out of character. Added in some organic drums and some simpler guitar textures.

THIS MOVIE wasn't originally a silent film . Now how I remember it
@James-w1e5k5 ай бұрын
Actually, it was silent. Long Chaney's only sound film was The Unholy 3. Chaney died shortly after it. His reason for not wanting to do sound was why Universal lured him to sign a contract. He was promised if the test movie, The Unholy 3, was successful it would bring him in the sound era. Promised to do Phantom of the Opera in sound and full 3 strip technicolor, Chaney agreed if his fear of sound was cured. He wasn't afraid of doing sound, it wasn't perfected and it ruined careers. He was lured with the promise that he'd do Dracula and then Frankenstein. The Unholy 3 was a success enough to make him feel comfortable enough that he'd done at least one sound film. By this time, though, Chaney knew he was dying from those years of smoking. Many fans of Lon Chaney, myself included, have wondered what his versions of Dracula and Frankenstein would've been like. Ray Bradbury had said he'd seen it and said sound wouldn't have stopped him from being scared seeing it as the organist provided music in the theater. He claimed it was a very influential film for him. I hope this helped. But it was a silent movie.
