This was a huge scene for Lorelai and Emily. With Lorelai graduating college and then finally opening up the Dragonfly Inn Emily finally started to see her as an adult in her professional life but she still sees her as that 16 year old girl who went and got pregnant and is running away from social obligations. I think this scene was the beginning of Emily seeing Lorelai as a capable adult socially too, which obviously culminates in season 7 when Chris and Lorelai's marriage is going downhill and for the first time Emily sees why Lorelai made the decisions she did. This was also ironic because in the episode Lorelai says she's worried about saying the wrong thing to Rory cause she doesn't want Rory to run away and here we see Emily show the same worry but instead compensating by being overbearing and controlling, and in the end both end up being the wrong decisions because they're both so far out of balance so neither Lorelai nor Rory had good support systems.

I can't decide if Luke punching Christopher or this scene is my favourite in the entire show, Emily had this coming since day one with how much she manipulated and abused Loreali. Such a satisfying scene 🙌🙌🙌
