I have been searching for information on the half scale and small scale railroads used in the Cadillac area that were used to extract logs from the forests in the early years.

My family owned part of Ford farm. Old rail grades every where, from Pequamming mill. Pictures of Gramps, woods just leveled behind him. Fence lines miles deep in woods, abandonded wells all over. Farming and workers shacks all over, equipment trees growing through them. Was a big community on Ford farm road, L'Anse. Nephew owns the 80 acres now. Gotta be over 300 acres total just the fields. Can see main house still standing, (privately owned) huge house. Father made a sawmill out of blade we found in an equipment shack, we used and restored some of the equipment planters, hay rakes, horse drawn hay cutter etc...

Thanks for this Mike-I was so pleased to see Saint Kateris Church-it was St. Joseph's while in Pequaming and renamed St. Catherines in honor of the man's wife who purchased the Church for Zeba. Look for it at 3:53. It is now closed down and the ownership is at question.

It’s idyllic, that’s for sure. Is it practical? How long would it take an ambulance to get to your home in the case of an emergency. It’s fascinating to observe and maybe to visit for a while, but how realistic is it to live there. It really does exude peace and safety, however. I think that it would be rather barren and would require a stone like mental constitution to survive. Having said that, though, it is kind of alluring in a romantic sort of way.

You don't sell cheap vehicles for nothing, they're always a cost to be paid, are the places pristine like they once were. Nature always pays the price, now we feel the repercussions of unsound rich decisions with zero accountability. All of our lakes & rivers run foul, any life is unfit for consumption without server consequences . I feel like the TV fake Native, standing next to the Hwy., when some dirtbag throws their petroleum laced toxic fast-food garbage at his feet. All I can say is rich ignorant tree monkey's & you said you were smart, but words are always cheap & meaningless in the end.

All the waste gets used in sawmills. Chips get sold, planer shavings are sold, saw dust, bark and trimmer blocks fire the kilns

Henry had some interesting politics back in the thirties maybe do a show on that.He hated everyone that worked for him and built tanks and trucks in Germany for Hitler he even won a supreme court case and the U.S.had to pay for the plant we bombed in Germany he owned during the war.He was a evil man maybe you should find a new hero.

Wow !!! History of logging, milling and mining . Those loggers can load those logs tight !! The Sawyer in that mill knows his business with his steam niger and steam shotgun fed carriage. I've never seen that type of mining before. Great video

This illustrates the basic difference between capitalism and communism. In capitalism the men are provided with the tools to maximize their output, decent dormitories and adequate, quality food. During the exact same time these scenes were being shot men who weren't shot were sentenced to slave labor in a camp in the Gulag system, provided only the most rudimentary of tools and often worked to death to accomplish the same output of raw materials. The workers in a capitalist system may not have been highly paid but they had better food, tools and living conditions compared to many in the Workers Paradise. Does someone have a reference to compare the cost on a per board foot basis what this lumber cost Ford to Gulag produced lumber? The Gulags were surely horribly inefficient but did the slave labor and low overhead result in cheaper lumber?
