I just want to state that Lucas said himself that Mace won against Palpatine fair and square. Mace is a superior lightsaber combatant while Palpatine is stronger in force. And we know that Mace can protect himself from Sidious lighting. So even without Anakin’s intervention, Mace would still be able to defeat Sidious. But since this is a fan fiction I guess we’ll go with your idea.
